:22 MWS VO 1 – ONCE A NEW BACKYARD PATIO… NOW STAINED AND WEATHER BEATEN. THIS COULD BE A NICE SPOT TO RELAX WITH A MORNING CUP OF COFFEE, OR TO ENTERTAIN A FEW FRIENDS ON A SUMMER EVENING.

STAY TUNED, BECAUSE TODAY, WE’RE GOING TO GIVE THIS PATIO A MUCH NEEDED FACE LIFT BY BUILDING AN ARBOR… AND WE’LL SHOW YOU HOW TO CREATE AN OUTDOOR ROOM… HERE, ON HARDSCAPES.

DISSOLVE TO10:08:27 – 10:08:30 various moves of concrete slab – stained, broken…

:14 CU VO 4 - BEFORE BEGINNING TO BUILD YOUR ARBOR, TAKE A LOOK AT THE CONDITION OF YOUR PATIO. LOOKS LIKE THIS PATIO HAS BEEN EXPOSED TO MANY YEARS OF WEATHER AND WEAR… IT’S IN GOOD SHAPE, BUT NEEDS A LITTLE HELP… TO EXTEND THE LIFE OF ANY PATIO, YOU’LL WANT TO SEAL IT.

MWS S – “but, if you really want to get the job done fast, use a pressure washer. “

VO5A – PRESSURE WASHERS ARE AVAILABLE AND CAN BE SET IN VARYING PRESSURES…. ANY WHERE FROM 1000 TO 2000 POUNDS PER SQUARE INCH… DEPENDING ON THE JOB. FOR CLEANING CONCRETE SLABS LIKE THIS ONE, CHOOSE A PRESSURE WASHER THAT OPERATES AT 1500 TO 2000 POUNDS PER SQUARE INCH

:12

:04

VO 6 - NOW, EVEN AFTER CLEANING, YOU MAY FIND SOME AREAS DIDN’T GET COMPLETELY CLEAN… FOR THOSE SUBBORN OIL STAINS, A TRI-SODIUM PHOSPHATE SOLUTION WORKS WELL. BUT, FOR A MORE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY METHOD,

SCRUBBING WITH FRESH KITTY LITER WORKS EQUALLY AS WELL, IT JUST TAKES A LITTLE MORE “ELBOW GREASE.”

100 DISSOLVE TO12:01:58 – 12:01:03Finishing up cleaning the slab…

:05 MS VO 7 – BE SURE TO RINSE THE PATIO WELL SO THAT NONE OF THE CLEANING PRODUCTS REMAIN BEFORE SEALING. AND, IT’S IMPORTANT THAT THE SURFACE OF THE CONCRETE HAS DRIED COMPLETELY BEFORE APPLYING THE SEALER.

VO 36 – A CLIMBING HYDRANGEA WAS PLANTED IN ONE OF THE PLANTERS. IN A FEW YEARS IT SHOULD GIVE THIS ARBOR EVEN MORE SHADE…

AND TO BRIGHTEN THINGS UP, THE ADIRONDACK CHAIRS WERE GIVEN A FRESH COAT OF FRENCH BLUE PAINT. THEY’LL MATCH NICELY WITH THE COLOR OF THE CLIMBING HYDRANGEA WHEN IT BLOOMS.

VO 37 - AND, FINALLY… BEFORE, WHEN LOOKING BACK AT THE HOUSE, YOU SAW NOTHING BUT DIRT UNDER THIS DECK… SO, A FEW EVERGREENS WERE PLANTED TO HELP HIDE THE UNSIGHTLINESS OF THIS AREA.
