This edition of our weekly Hornet Happenings is being sent to the parents of our anticipatedClass of 2024 students for the first time. Welcome! We value the connections we have with ourfamilies and we encourage you to please reach out to us with questions at any time.

Tonight is our annual Future Freshman Night beginning at 6:00 p.m. Please read all the detailsbelow under Parents Corner.

As promised, here are the video links to three of our featured speakers from last week's APParent Night: (1) current senior Habib Rehman, U of I BioEngineering Class of 2024 who iscurrently enrolled in 7 AP classes, (2) Class of 2015 alum Joe Eilbert who is a VanderbiltUniversity graduate w/a double major in Physics and Art History who entered Vanderbilt with 41credit hours from his AP classes at South, and (3) our regional admissions officer from U of Iwho shared how well South's AP program prepares students for college and spoke of currentlegislation ensuring all AP scores of 3 and higher earn students college credit. Course Registration 2020-2021

Course registration for the 2020-2021 school year begins on January 27. We encourageparents to use the online Program of Studies (https://d86.hinsdale86.org/domain/229) toplan which courses are a best fit for their child(ren). Official course selection forms weredistributed in 2nd period on January 9—parents should complete this form with their child.Students are expected to bring the completed course request form with them to their courseselection appointment with their school counselor. Course Registration Schedule:

STARTING January 17: Recs OnlineTeacher recommendations are viewable in Home Access Center (HAC) starting January 17 at3:30 p.m. Remember that these are recommendations only and it is up to each family to decidewhich courses to enroll in. If families have questions about specific course recommendations,please contact the relevant teacher or department chair.

January 27: Students with an IEPCounselor meetings to finalize course selections for students with an IEP.

January 28 & 30: Class of 2021Counselor meetings to finalize course selections for the Class of 2021.

February 3 & 4: Class of 2022Counselor meetings to finalize course selections for the Class of 2022.

February 5 & 6: Class of 2023Counselor meetings to finalize course selections for the Class of 2023.

February 7: DEADLINENo changes can be made to course requests after February 7.

The master schedule of classes will be developed from the requests made through this courseselection process. If a course is not requested during registration, a seat is not likely to beavailable later. The requests submitted in January and February are considered a commitmenton the part of the students to take the classes they have asked the school to provide.Disappointment can be avoided if choices are based upon adequate preparation andforethought. Please begin discussions with your parents, teachers, and counselor right away.

SENIOR CANDY SALEThe senior candy sale is the largest fundraiser that raises money for prom. Students can

earn a $20 Prom Ticket Discount for each candy carrier sold.

Candy cost is $2.00 per item and each carrier is worth $60.00. However, in order to earnprom ticket credit, ALL candy money must be turned in to the Activities Office no later than

Monday, January 31st at 7:50 a.m.

Students are responsible for paying for any candy taken because we will not accept unsoldcandy. Students should make sure they only take what they are confident in selling. More

candy is available in Math Room #351 and staff contacts are Kristin Lapinski, ColleenNoodleman or Lynn Hatzikostantis.

Our Student Council members will be working hard collecting non-perishablefood for the People Resource.

Between January 29th & February 5th, Student Council members will drive to variousneighborhoods and drop off paper grocery bags for food collection. Then the members willcollect all food from these locations on February 14th.

Between February 10th & 14thStudents can bring all non-perishable food donations to school and take directly to thetheir 3rd period class.

Conference in Miami, Florida last week.

During the session, Dr. Lawrence and co-presenters Lissa Blake, a K-2 instructional

technology integration coach at HolmesPrimary School in Maercker School District60, and Jack Schultz, the assistant head ofYouth Services for the Indian Prairie PublicLibrary, provided attendees with informationabout how virtual reality can be used in the

classroom and in conjunction with after-schoolevents to enhance STEM programming as

Green Classic on Saturday, January 18thhelping the Hornets take 6th Place out of 22

teams!

Zakhari had a great week leading the team totwo victories and a 5th place finish at IHSA

Regional. Against Bolingbrook, he shot a 556series including a 224 game. On Thursday,

Zakhari rolled the high series of the year witha 624. His individual games were 172, 226 &

226. Zakhari also advanced to the IHSASectional by bowling a 1101 six game series.
