Shawnee Mission Medical Center ‘s (SMMC) 54-acre campus is composed of the hospital, a free-standing outpatient surgery center, a community health educational building, five medical office buildings, an associate child care center and a community fitness center.

SMMC opened its Critical Care Services Expansion in early 2009. This $114 million, seven-story tower was designed with the comfort of patients and families in mind. Included in this 265,000-square-foot facility is a 40-bed Emergency Department; 28 intensive care beds; 32 acuity-adaptable cardiac beds; four advanced-technology operating suites; 32 beds in the Ambulatory Care Unit; 22 beds in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit and a GI/Endoscopy Lab. A Chapel and Healing Garden are also available for prayer and meditation.
