During the summer, Human Resources schedules many learning and development classes. Refer to page 12 for a list. It is also a great time to engage with one or more employee resource groups. Our May issue is also when we like to feature our wonderful employees who were recognized on March 16 for service to the University, management potential, and outstanding career achievements at our annual Service Recognition Luncheon. Congratulations and thank you for your commitment to Princeton! Lastly, I want to congratulate Helene Murphy who was recently promoted to senior benefits specialist. We have been fortunate to have Helene in HR since 2010 assisting employees with their benefits questions and needs. In closing, I wish you all a restful and reinvigorating summer. As you walk around the campus, stop me to say hello! And, please continue to send me your feedback—it’s always welcomed!

This spring, staff members who achieved service milestones in 2014, beginning at 10 years of service and continuing every

by Hamilton Jewelers, and commemorative videos produced by the Broadcast Center in the McGraw Center for Teaching and Learning.

This year's honoree video, entitled Heart of Princeton: Our Employees' Perspectives, featured 13 staff members who shared

their experiences about working at Princeton. Their words have been excerpted and are featured on the following pages.

For more information, including photos and videos from the event, visit the Luncheon website.

Admirable Institution

KEVIN DELANEY, 40 YEARS

“I would describe Princeton as an employer as very fair and a good employer. I’ve used their benefits a few times and the University always had my back on it.

Working at Princeton, besides the personal aspects of it, carries a lot of prestige when you say that you work here. Most people that I’ve ever talked to, when I tell them that I work at Princeton, think I have a good job which, of course, I do. Part of that is because of the fame and prominence of the University.”

SILVANA BISHOP, 10 YEARS

“The benefits are fantastic. For children to have the opportunity to go to a university and [Princeton] University pays for part of that. The health insurance is great. They are always looking out for your benefit. They’re always trying to adjust everything for the employees—they are looking out for us all the time.

You feel proud to be part of this huge University family, and you say you work at Princeton, and the eyes of other people go ‘Yea. Wow. Princeton.’ Yes, I’m very proud to work here.”

Engaging Atmosphere

SENA HILL, 10 YEARS

“I would say I like my job a lot here at Princeton. I really enjoy the interaction between the faculty and the students and just the whole atmosphere. I really enjoy being a part of this big University where you’re just around a lot of brilliance and a lot of fascinating things.”

STACIE TRAUBE, 30 YEARS

“I like my job. I work with many different varieties of people in Athletics. I’ve worked with many coaches, thousands of students, [and] I interact with many different levels of alumni, students, coaches. It’s a lot of fun; ever-changing.”

DAVID HOPKINS, 20 YEARS

“What I love about this job is unpredictability. I can walk in the door expecting to do three things that I know are on my schedule but then they’ll throw the Dalai Lama at you, they’ll throw President Carter, and other things that you just never expected to have to deal with that day and so that’s what I think I enjoy about the job: I’m never bored. There are always new things that are happening, and the brilliance that is in this University just amazes me as I walk down the hallways and there’s a Nobel laureate walking by you. It’s just an amazing thing.”

Enriching Opportunities

FELICIA EDWARDS, 15 YEARS

“Extracurricular activities at Princeton are plentiful on this campus. You could be going to hear a Nobel laureate give a talk, a football or a basketball game, a happy hour that one of the employee resource groups has organized, or sit in on a conversation with a Supreme Court justice. I think the wealth of opportunities to do fun things here is something that I would not have anticipated but I have been thrilled and pleased to take advantage of as much of it as I possibly can.”

DONALD REICHLING, 35 YEARS

“When you have heads of state that come, presidents, and controversial speakers, and such, it's just the nature of the job. You’re here after hours sometimes and you get to see a different side and get real up-close; that’s one of the things I really enjoy.”

CAROL OBERTO, 15 YEARS

“I work in the Hellenic Studies Program so I was able to take Modern Greek. I took that for two years and that definitely enriched my experience of working in Hellenic Studies and understanding the culture more. It was something I always wanted to do and it was welcomed. It was something that was encouraged, and that’s typical at the University.”

Supportive Environment

STEVEN SCHULTZ, 15 YEARS

“We’re all appreciated for our strengths. It’s trusted that you’re doing the best work for the institution and you can take care of your own life as well and that doing both things is very important.”

KAMARA BLACKMAN, 10 YEARS

“Personally speaking, Princeton has been so incredibly generous not only to me but to people around me with respect to work life balance. I’ve been very grateful to Princeton for allowing me to be the best that I can be in all of those areas of my life so that I felt that I didn’t have to sacrifice and make a choice between being the best mom versus being the best professional—I could be the best at all of them and that means the most to me.”

EDWARD DIXON, 35 YEARS

“I like the fact that Princeton allows you to have flexible hours, they take your family really seriously into consideration, and if you have a family member that’s sick, they give you the time to be with that family member without any punishment. That’s one of the great aspects that we have here. One of the great things about Princeton is that they have compassion.”

Enjoyable Activities

DEVI NARAYANAN, 10 YEARS

“With regards to what Princeton offers with education or other campus activities, my family and I enjoy Communiversity. Even if it’s rain or shine, my kids want to make sure that they come to it because there’s just so many things, they never feel like they are ever done with the day.

The other thing that I also like is during Reunions, I try to see if I can make it for the P-rade to see alumni walking in the campus at that time of the year—it’s just amazing.”

ARTHUR MILLER, 25 YEARS

“I agree with you about Communiversity, ever since they started doing that, I go and, some years I participate—I sing with a local barbershop chorus—some years we sing with that or we just put a quartet together and that’s always fun. The other main thing I love is the rotating exhibits that they have at the Library and the Art Museum. The quality of the exhibits that they have is just stunning.

I tell people, ‘Look, you don’t have to come to Reunions but at least once if you live anywhere in the area, you should come see at least one P-rade in your life.’”

HR’s Friendly Face, Donna FaragoDonna Farago is Human Resources’ absence administrator on the HR Information Systems Team. In

her role, Donna works with employees and managers to handle inquiries and adjustments to the absence management system and to troubleshoot issues with the Office of Information Technology. She also is currently

supporting the absence management module for the PeopleSoft 9.2 upgrade. In addition, Donna assists with the management of the Salary Administration Module (SAM) during the Merit Increase Program (MIP) process, is a backup for the Data Management Group (DMG), runs queries, audits reports, and analyzes data.
