Humana Press, Totowa, NJ, 2003, US$99.50, 413 pp, ISBN: 0-86903-977-3. HPLC of Peptides and Proteins is a detailed collection of practical information covering basic theory, com- monly used advanced techniques in protein character- izations together with a series of particularly interesting case studies. The first few chapters indicate the basic principles and are very helpful for newcomers in this field. This is followed by more advanced analytical proteome applications with detailed methodologies for the separation and analyses of peptides, proteins, post-translationally modified proteins, glycopeptides, glycoproteins and membrane proteins. Methods range from simple capillary to large-scale preparative isola- tion. Overall, this book is well written and the early chapters are particularly suitable for beginners in HPLC. The preparation techniques would be very use- ful indeed. Advice on potential problems and pitfalls with each technique is well documented. In summary, HPLC of Peptides and Proteins is a very useful labor- atory companion or reference guide for researchers in pursuit of peptide and protein characterizations.
