COMPANY PROFILE

Specializing in the Heating, Ventilation, Air

Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC&R) industry, HPI

has custom designed and purpose built air

conditioning equipment for commercial and industrial

applications for over 20 years. Applications range from

shopping malls, offices, hospitals, auditoriums and

computer rooms, to pharmaceutical manufacturers,

mines and marine vessels. Although unit designs often

differ between projects this brochure details some of

the classic designs which are typically used as a starting

point during design and tender stages. HPI is based in

Cape Town, South Africa.

UNIT CABINET & DOORS

Constructed from 25mm or 45mm fire-retardant

polystyrene sandwiched between 0.5mm Chromadek

equivalent zinc coated steel and fixed together with

anodized aluminium extrusions which make a

statement. Doors are normally designed to open

against the pressure gradient for optimum sealing

integrity. Both positive and negative pressure cabinet

tests are offered when the highest leakage standards

for mitigation against energy loss, air infiltration &

exfiltration must be met. High pressure fan and orifice

flow plate test rig pictured below.

Where site access prevents rigging or maneuvering of

large air conditioning equipment, unit site assembly &

commissioning solutions are offered.

FANS & MOTORS

Known for their high build quality, efficiency and low

noise emissions, Nicotra Gebhardt centrifugal and plug

fans are imported by HPI from Italy and used

extensively on most units. Premium efficiency motors

are fitted for optimum efficiency. Various axial fan

solutions are used for condensers or where high

volume and high efficiency is an application

requirement.

COMPRESSORS

Generally R410A Bitzer or Copeland scrolls with oil

sight glass. Intelligent compressor management with

comprehensive protection features come standard.

EVAPORATOR AND CONDENSER COILS

Made up of copper tubes and aluminium fins housed in

a galvanised or stainless steel casing. Protective

coatings offered for corrosive operating environments.

Condenser coils and fans built exclusively with stainless

steel fasteners and painted hammer tone.

SWITCH BOARDS

Generally recessed into cabinets and fitted with mostly

ABB switch gear. 3CR12 switchboard enclosures come

standard for outdoor surface mount configurations or

for corrosive operating environments.

CONTROLS

Leading the evolution of control technology,

humidification, and electronic expansion valves, Carel

componentry is used extensively on HPI equipment.
