1. General

• Supports Adobe Illustrator CC2019

• Supports new Mac OS 10.14

• Java support – this Designer version supports Java 9 and Java 10.

– Same as in version 22:

During the software installation, the installer looks for Java, and issues a message if it is not found or if the required version is missing. The message includes a link to the Oracle page where the required Java version is found.

2. Preview

– Edit the Position and the Size of a channel while Preview is On - is now supported.

– Note: Other editing while preview is On, is not supported, same as in previous versions:

• Double-clicking the channel row in the channels panel opens the Modify Image channel window, only if Preview is Off.

3. New version availability notification

A new bell shaped icon added to the Designer Tools panel.

– The bell icon appears with a red dot when there is an available software update.

– It is possible at any time to click the icon and check if the SmartStream Designer version is up-to-date.

4. Pack and Submit improvements

Pre-flight messages added to Pack Job for problematic fonts, such as Mac fonts that cannot be converted on PC, screen fonts (.scr), and so on.

Seed files for HP Mosaic are included in the HPD if the Include variable assets option in the Pack Job window is selected.

The Seed files are included in both options:– From Assets Folder– From database

The HPD now also contains a pre-flight information XML file.It is an internal file that is read by systems that use the HPD: Composer and Print OS Composer This XML is named JobInfo.xml and it contains job information.

5. GEM support – Predefined Spot Color names added

• SmartStream Designer now supports Predefined Spot Color names for GEM (Graphic Embellishment):- GEM Spot Low

- GEM Cast and Cure

• This is for adding the names to the Illustrator Swatches list:1. In the Swatches panel, select Libraries icon.2. In the Libraries list, select HP Indigo Swatch.3. The GEM spot colors are added to the Swatches

list.

6. Dynamic Application – Barcode Studio - Improvements

This Designer version supports new Barcode Studio version 15.10This version is a free upgrade for customers with an earlier version of Barcode Studio.Designer now provides better support for barcodes with human readability: Selecting Fit Content to Frame option does not cause the human readable text to be stretched.

Designer performance is improved – creating output files for jobs that include a Barcode Studio channel are faster compared to previous versions.

All the Mosaic editing options are now in one window with 3 panes:- Template pane

- Sets pane

- Seeds pane

Template PaneThe Template file is a plain txt that gathers the Mosaic definition parameters selected in this window.

1. Keep template name or type another.

2. Select Seed files by either browse or drag & drop (from a single location).Multi-file selection is available.

7. HP Mosaic

Sets paneA set contains 1 or more Seed files that are the source of creating Mosaic variations for a specific range. By default, the range is from 1 to 1 million (see screenshot A)The default definition is of 1 set. Most jobs are defined with a single set.

More than 1 set can be defined, such as for 2 range definitions, each with specific Seed files.Example: Range 1-500,000: Seeds A, B, and C. Range 500,001-1,000,000: Seeds E, F, and G(see screenshots B and C).

1. Click the Plus icon to add a set (see red oval).2. Click Trash can icon to delete a set.3. If there is more than 1 set, use the horizontal

arrows to select a set and edit its parameters.

Seeds paneIn the Seeds pane, it is possible to– Add Seed files to a selected set.– Edit Seed file parameters.Every Seed appears in a separate tab. In the screenshot are 3 Seed files.

Use the horizontal arrows to select the next or previous Seed file from the defined ones.

Click the Plus icon to add a Seed.

Use Trash can icon to remove a Seed file.

Use the List icon to open the Seed file list and select one to edit its parameters.

1. Define Scaling in percentages.Scaling can be in steps of 1.0% and minimum 100, such as: 101% - 245%

2. Note the red and blue frames thatshow the portion of the Seed file that is used for the largest andsmallest scale.

3. The Position, Rotation, Fit To Frame, and Shuffle Spot Colors are without changes. See the HP Mosaic How-to Guide for details.

4. It is now possible to apply the Settings of 1 Seed to all Seeds, or to select specific parameters from the list and apply only them to all the Seeds.

Using the following workflow steps will result in a Counter being automatically defined.

For a job with Database not selected and Counter not defined:

1. Define an Image box.

2. In the Data Field panel, click the Mosaic icon.

– The Image box is defined as an Image Channel.

– This channel is defined as Dynamic Personalization with HP Mosaic.

– A Counter of 1-10 is automatically defined.

– The Mosaic Settings window opens.

• Designer for InDesign – Generates HPD-Fast or HPD-Rich.

• Creating PDF output file directly from Designer (no HPD) – is always Rich.

• HPD-Rich supports any graphic design attribute for the variable data.

• HPD-Fast is generated faster but its support of graphic design attributes for the variable data is limited.

• When generating HPD-Fast, a pre-flight check lists graphic design attributes that are not supported, if there are any.

• The supported graphic Design attributes of HPD-Fast versus HPD-Rich are listed in Appendix A.
