Empathy and understanding are values that we emphasise in our
daily business with students at Howlong Public School. Students are
taught and encouraged to be respectful of others differences,
needs and opinions. It is always special to see students supporting
each other when they need help or just need a friend.
For that same reason, this week we are inviting parents and
community members to join staff at our Biggest Afternoon Tea on
Friday at 1:45pm, to help raise funds for the Cancer Council. We all
have family and friends who have been touched by this disease
and joining in this event is a great way to acknowledge and support
them.
Remember too, that we have a food bank operating at school and
donations of meals to freeze and distribute are always welcome.
Just ensure you label the contents/ingredients please, so that we
can avoid any issues with food allergies. Containers are available at
school if you would like to contribute, just ask at the front office.
Today I had the pleasure of meeting our new School Director for
Hume Mrs Sue Lowe, introducing her to students and staff and
showing her around our wonderful school. She was very impressed
with the programs and projects we have and enjoyed the students
sharing their learning with her. We all look forward to working with
Mrs Lowe in the future.

Today we were in the garden with
Mr. Curtis, we were filling up the
big concrete bed/tunnel. We took
turns in activities. One group
helped put compost in a bed with
another group. Another group
used shovels to fill up buckets to fill
up the compost. We were with Lyn
and she taught us how to put
plants into new pots and water
them.

Paul Kelly Cup
The Paul Kelly Cup was held on Friday the 18th of May, the AFL supplied us with a bus so that
was very much appreciated. We played three games and two of them we sadly lost but
everybody tried their hardest and had fun. We would like to thank Albury High and Trinity for
umpiring us on the day. We had some extra time for two scratch matches and polished some
of our skills. We would like to thank Mr Clark for taking us and coaching our team.

Visiting Author
Last Friday Oliver Phommavanh a

judging from the amount of laughter
coming from the hall he was certainly
very entertaining.

Senior Data collectors: Millie Ashman, Charlotte Chant, Olivia White, Tahlia Gray and Lillia Osojnik
In Term 4 last year we took part in the National Bird Count Program where for one week, we identified
and counted all the birds present in our school grounds. This information was uploaded onto the bird
count app to be included in the national data collection.
This information is very relevant to our playground development strategy to plant primarily native flora
interspersed with non-native trees. Ideally, as our planting progresses we will start to sight more birds
coming to visit.
With this in mind, we decided to collect data for each season and see how the numbers change each
year. Our next bird count will be in Winter in Term 3 and then in Spring. Mrs Svarc
