Roy Lee Lindsey, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Pork Council, is shown here presenting the Award to Hays. The Council pointed to the efforts of Ron Hays in not only reporting to farmers and ranchers about news impacting their operations, but also his ability to tell the Pork Industry's story to consumers listening to him on the statewide Radio Oklahoma Network, as well as seeing him each Saturday morning during the “In the Field with Ron Hays” report on News9 in Oklahoma City. 24 Hours a Day, 7 Days a Week the latest farm and ranch news on your schedule! www.OklahomaFarmReport.com Howdy Neighbors and Welcome to Spring! Lots of folks have been looking forward to spring's arrival ever since the Christmas Eve snowstorm that hit much of Oklahoma. El Nino has kept a southerly track of moisture that has continued to first pump ice and snow, and then in more recent days rain and a few thunderstorms across our great state. Saying that, it's good to see spring arrive, pastures green up, and wheat fields rapidly growing. After the extremely poor wheat crop of one year ago, there are lots of hopes for better production this year for those that will be harvesting the 2010 wheat crop in a matter of a couple of months from now. The month of April is always a great month because of two very special events that keep us extremely busy at the Radio Oklahoma Network. The first of these events is the Southern Plains Farm Show, being held this year April 15-17 at the State Fair Park in Oklahoma City. This year's Farm Show is shaping up to be a tremendous event. The Radio Oklahoma Network is excited for the third year to be giving away the Priefert 40-foot Round Pen that will be used in the horse training seminars that will be held twice daily during the show. In 2010, Scott Daily of Arkansas City, Kansas, will once again be working with horses that are nominated by Radio Oklahoma Network listeners or readers of our website. We have concentrated on “problem” horses this year, and I look forward to watching Scott work his magic twice a day at the Southern Plains Farm Show. While at the horse training seminars, you will be able to register for the Round Pen, and you can register at the RON booth in the Cox Pavilion during the show. There are many other great things to see and do at this year's Southern Plains Farm Show, and we hope to see you and have a chance to say “howdy” April 15th through the 17th. Later in the month, the 84th Annual Convention of the Oklahoma FFA Association will draw in thousands of young men and ladies in their Blue and Gold jackets to Downtown Oklahoma City. The Oklahoma FFA Association is considered one of the elite state programs in the US for FFA and agricultural education, and the show they put on each April rivals the polish and excitement of the National FFA convention that is held annually in Indianapolis. The 2010 theme is Lead. Out. Loud, and State FFA President Amy Peel of Wetumka will be leading FFA members from all 77 counties in this two day event.
