Welcome to February! Can you believe that the Ravens won?! I was pretty pumped, not sure about you all! Before I let you in on what’s going on this month, I’d love to give a HUGE shout out to the President’s Street Team for being so awesome! You guys and gals are really helping out the Mount community and student life here on campus and I want you to know that you’re appreciated! If you want to take part in this volunteer based team helping out the SU, email me at [email protected]. Some of the events going on this month that you shouldn’t miss include Charity Ball on the 9th, organized and hosted by Rez Society, our Kumoniwannalaya Hot Tub Party, as well as Trivia, Open Mic, and/or Karaoke Thursdays at the pub! As always, we have Poker on Tuesdays which is free to play but you can earn points every week for a chance to win $500 at the end of the term. Finally, election packages will be available at the Rosaria Information Desk from the 25th to March 6th for Executive Positions! So make sure you pick yours up! Msvusu & Disability Services collaborate
Mount Saint Vincent University Students’ Union February 2013
For inclusion initiative
The MSVU Students’ Union (SU) and Disability Services teamed up this
past semester to develop a new employment initiative for students with
disabilities. The position will help plan union events with SU executives,
attend Student Representative Council meetings and advocate for students
with barriers.
“This job is aligned with many interactive duties”, says Zac Quinlan,
Executive Vice President at the MSVUSU. “The Union constantly strives to
improve its diversity and employment opportunities and this position
features both aspects - I am proud to be a part of the first ever Inclusion
Advancement Liaison.”
The pilot project began this past September as a volunteer program at the
SU and has since snowballed into an employment opportunity opening up
once a semester. Brianna Burns is the first student to fulfill the role, as her
and Zac began working together early 2012. Brianna will exercise many
skills such as promotion, advocacy and practice graphic design skills while
collaborating with other students.
“It’s not easy to secure employment, especially if you are facing societal
barriers,” says Kim Musgrave, Coordinator of Disability Services. “This
project will give students a foundation for employment and hopefully open
up opportunities for their future.”
The Inclusion Advancement Liaison will work ten hours per pay period
working with both the MSVUSU and Disability Services. The shifts require
exercising situational skills, and constant student engagement through
many different modes of communication. This role will result in an enriched
professional experience and an overall positive connection with the
University itself.

Phishing Emails
“Give a person a fish and they will eat for a day, teach a person to phish and they
will clean out your bank account.”
Phishing is used to attempt to gain access to your information: your accounts for
email, banking, gaming, and social media as well as access to your contacts in any
of these accounts. After the information is gathered there is usually an attempt by
those behind the phishing attempts to monetize this information, to make use of
what has been gathered.
There is always a new phishing attempt going around, IT&S would like you to keep
a few thoughts in mind when you are reading email or going to websites to avoid
being scammed.
No MSVU group, IT&S, Financial services, Registrar’s Office Housing, etc,
will send out an email asking you to provide your account info or password.
If you receive an email for no reason asking you to follow a link to confirm
something about your account here at MSVU – most likely it is fake, be
wary.
Only normal MSVU sites that you log into, sites like mymount.msvu.ca,
moodle.msvu.ca or webmail.msvu.ca, will require your MSVU username and
password. If a site is outside of MSVU.ca, there is no connection to your
MSVU credentials, it would not need them, so do not provide them.
For other systems that require logins, such as facebook or your bank, similar
guidelines apply. If an email is asking you to follow a link to confirm
something or asking for details that the site should already know, be wary.
If you are still not sure about an email or a link, ask first. Say an email was
supposedly from your bank, then go to your bank’s website (not using any link from
that email!) and contact them to make sure everything is ok with your account.
