WHAT IS INTELLIGENCE?
The ability to solve real-life problems.
The ability to find and create problems.
The ability to offer a product or service that is valued in at least one culture.
HUMANITY AND ITS POTENTIAL
We have the ability to enhance and amplify our intelligence.
Intelligence can change and be taught to others.
Intelligence is multiple and occurs in different parts of the brain/mind system.
Intellect is pluralistic and at some level it is one.
GARDNER’S THEORY
It’s not how smart your are, but how you are smart.
The eight intelligences are independent, yet they work together.
A person’s level of intelligence is measured in a more holistic evaluation.
Provides for a natural profile of “Human potential.”
A WALK THROUGH MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES
VERBAL /LINGUISTIC
Definition: Is able to use language, spoken and written, with clarity.
Kid definition: Word smart
VERBAL LINGUISTIC
Ways to teach: Lecture, discussion, word games, storytelling, choral reading, journal writing.
Vocational Pursuits: Public speaking, Novelist, Poet, Journalist, Comedian, Play writing, Newscasting, Story-telling/writing.
LOGICAL/MATHEMATICAL
Definition: Is the ability to stick to the rigors of logic and numerical patterns in reasoning
Kid Definition: Logic smart, number smart.
LOGICAL/MATHEMATICAL
Ways to teach: Brain teasers, problem solving, science experiments, mental calculation, number
games, critical thinking.
Vocational Pursuits: Scientific research, Accounting/Business,Legal assistance, Banking, Computerprogramming, Mathematician, Medicine
INTRAPERSONAL
Definition: Is the ability to know one’s own feelings, thoughts and desires.
Kid Definition: Self smart.
INTRAPERSONAL
Ways to teach: Individualized instruction, Independent study, Options in course of study, Self-esteem building.
Vocational Pursuits: Psychiatry, Spiritual Counseling, PotentialExploration, Philosopher, Guru, CognitivePatterns Research.
MUSICAL RHYTHMIC
Definition: Is the ability to produce and appreciate rhythm and
express themselves musically.
Kid Definition: Music smart.

Ways to teach: Rapping, Songs that teach..
Vocational Pursuits: Advertising, Performing Musician, Music Teacher, Environmental Sound
Engineering, Film Making, Musical Theatre, Television.
VISUAL/SPATIAL
Definition: To visualize and perceive configurations using the world of imagination.
Kid Definition: Picture smart.

Ways to teach: Visual presentations, art activities, imagination games, mind mapping, metaphors.
Vocational Pursuits: Architecture, Graphic Artistry, Cartographer, Drafting, Painting, Sculpting, Advertising.
INTERPERSONAL
Definition: Is the ability to be a team player; sensitivity to others moods and motivations
Kid Definition: People smart

Ways to teach: Cooperative learning, peer tutoring, community involvement, social gatherings, simulations.
Vocational Pursuits: Counseling/Therapist, Professional Teaching, Politics, Sociologist Anthropologist, Religious Leader
BODY/KINESTHETIC
Definition: The ability to use their body skillfully.
Kid Definition: Body smart. Sports smart. Hand smart

Ways to teach: Hands on learning, drama, dance, sports that teach, tactile activities, relaxation\ exercises.
Vocational Pursuits: Athletics, Acting/Mime, Physical Education Instruction, Inventor, Professional Dancing/Choreography,Dramatic.

Definition: The ability to observe, understand and
organize patterns in the natural environment..
Kid Definition: Plant and animal smart.
NATURALIST
Ways to teach: Classification, organizational charts.
Vocational Pursuits: Environmentalist, Scientist, Park Ranger, Doctor.
