of hypocrisy and wickedness...

“You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to

The prophets compared us to a bride

who has broken her love.

Ezekial 16:7-8 You grew up and developed and became the most beautiful of jewels.

Your breasts were formed and your hair grew, you who were naked and bare. Later I passed by, and when I looked at you and saw that you were

old enough for love, I spread the corner of my garment over you and covered your nakedness. I gave you my solemn oath and entered into a

covenant with you, declares the Sovereign Lord, and you became mine."

Jeremiah 13:22 "And if you ask yourself, 'Why has this happened to me?'--it is because

of your many sins that your skirts have been torn off and your body mistreated.

... 25-27 because you have forgotten me and trusted in false gods. I will pull up your skirts over your face that your shame may be seen--your adulteries

and lustful neighings, your shameless prostitution! I have seen your detestable acts on the hills and in the fields. Woe to you, O Jerusalem!

How long will you be unclean?"

2,000 years ago, Jesus also expressed disappointment with the way He was received.

Matthew 25:1-13“At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five

were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise ones, however,

took oil in jars along with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all

became drowsy and fell asleep.

Continued“At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the

bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’

  “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the

wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’

“‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to

those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’

Continued“But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding

banquet. And the door was shut.  

“Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’

 “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know

you.’ 

Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.

1 Corinthians 13:1-3 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding

gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do

not have love, I gain nothing.

1 Corinthians 13:13 In the end these three things remain, faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is

love.

1 John 4:7-8 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love

comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God, whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
