What is Venmo?
Venmo is a smartphone app that allows you to pay and request
money from your friends and family. At its core, Venmo provides a
social way to pay your friends when you owe them money and do not
want to deal with cash (Venmo, 2016).

How Venmo works?
Use Venmo to pay or request funds from people. This App is a
safe place where you are able to create a “venmo balance” of
payments received, or you can set up to send money and transfer
funds directly to and from your personal bank account. Venmo is
also a social network that includes a newsfeed where you can see
who paid who and what for. However, the privacy and sharing setting
can be altered to make it comfortable for you.

Lets get started!
Installation and Setup
Download the Venmo app: Using your smartphone, download the
Venmo App
Sign up: Choose your sign up method, either “sign up with
Facebook”, or “sign up with email” and create a secure password
(between 8 and 32 characters long)
Verify your phone number and email address
Add and verify your bank account by choosing your bank and
adding your preferred credit card information as shown in the
images below
Notice: You can sign up with either Facebook or email

Finding and Adding Friends
Contacts: You will be asked if Venmo can access your contacts,
if you give permission, Venmo will automatically look for people in
your contacts who have Venmo accounts and will add them to your
friends (and you will be added to theirs)
Facebook: By linking Venmo to your Facebook account, Venmo will
access your friend’s list.
Manual: You can add friends manually by searching for their user
name in the search bar, opening up their profile, and adding them
as a friend, as show below in the images
By choosing the “Invite Friends” tabs beneath “Search People”,
you can add people from your contacts rather than searching by
username

Making Payments
Begin at the home screen and click the small icon in the top
right hand corner, like shown below

Search and click on the name of the person you want to make a
payment out to
Type in the amount of money you want to pay your friends and
what for
Click “pay” and the money will be directly sent to the
recipients’ Venmo account

Requesting Money
In order to request money, you will follow the same basic steps
as making payments but instead you will click “Request”. The person
will receive this request and make the payment to you
Transferring Venmo Balance to Bank Account
Click on the three-stripe icon in the top left corner as shown
in the image below

Tap “Transfer to Bank”
An alert will pop up reading “Add Bank Account”; you will then
click on this button
You will then choose your bank then type in the bank User ID and
password
Once you have entered the correct information, you can transfer
your Venmo balance to your bank account by typing in the amount you
want transferred and clicking “Transfer”
