How to use the “WBMS Detention” Google Doc

Google Docs are great because multiple people can access modify them at the same time – unlike the J: drive. You can

also view it from any computer, any time.

This tutorial will guide you through how to access and use this Google Doc.

If you already know how to use Google

Docs and just want to see how to use this

particular doc, click on this oval.

If you need help accessing Google Docs, in addition to using this particular doc, click on

this oval.

Go to www.google.com

Click on “Sign In”

If you already have an account with your school email account (or the email address that you sent Erica), enter your information and click “Sign in.”

If you don’t, click “Create an account now.”

you.

Using your school email address, set up an account. You can sign in to Google Docs / Calendar using any email address.

Set up your account just like any other account.

You will get an email verification. Click on the link within the email.

You will then be able to access any Google applications.

This is the screen that you will see when you sign in. Click on “More” in the upper toolbar and click “Documents.”

You should see your email

address here.

This is the screen that shows you all of the Google Docs that you have been invited to view. To view the Detention document, just click on the words “WBMS Detention.”

To add a student to the list, just add their name under the

appropriate date. Add your name beside his/her name

under the “Assigning Teacher” column. If the spaces are all

filled, move on to another day.

You can see that each month has its own tab at the bottom. This is just like a

regular Excel document.

In addition, just use the scroll bar at the bottom to move across the document.

The document will almost always automatically save. You can check that the changes are saved by looking at the “Saved” button. If it is gray (like this one), it has automatically saved. If not, click “Save.”

Congratulations! You are now a Google Doc pro … or at least you

know more than you did when you started!
