Congratulations to our Sports Stars

We have been inspired by the achievements of our former Glasgow Children’s University pupils and predict we

have some rising sports stars.

Callum Holland (pictured below) discovered his love of weightlifting when he attended the Children’s University

validated Gladiator Weightlifting Club in Easterhouse whilst a pupil at St Andrew’s Secondary. He graduated

from Glasgow Children’s University in 2018 and his continued hard work outside normal school hours has

resulted in some amazing achievements.

He won Gold in his age and weight class at the British Weightlifting Championships in October and represented

Scotland in the Celtic Nations Weightlifting Competition in November 2019.

Also in the spotlight is Jack Cooper (right) who also attends St Andrew’s

Secondary and is excelling in Karate. Jack has won the British

International Open, the Scottish International and National Open, the Irish

International Open and the Scottish Grand Prix! He took up the sport

aged 7 after a pathways event at his primary school, St Rose of Lima,

where the instructor then introduced him to Eastbank Karate. Jack has

now returned to St Rose of Lima and is coaching and inspiring the young

pupils.

Congratulations to both Callum and Jack on their achievements and we

wish you continued success.

If these young athletes have inspired you to take up sport then logon to

Aspire and see what sports are available at your school or in your local

community. Who knows maybe you will be going for gold at the Olympics!

If you have an interesting story to tell about your Children’s University

journey then please share it with us. We would love to feature you in our

next Newsletter.
