1 Attach the tester clip to the red wire lead on thetimer switch, and touch the tester probe to the

black hot lead. Rotate the timer dial clockwise until theON tab passes the arrow marker. Tester should glow. Ifit does not, the switch is faulty and must be replaced.

1 Test pilot light by flipping the switch lever to theON position. Check to see if the light fixture or

appliance is working. If the pilot light does not gloweven though the switch operates the light fixture orappliance, then the pilot light is defective and the unitmust be replaced.

2 Test the switch by disconnecting the unit. With theswitch lever in the ON position, attach the tester

clip to the top screw terminal on one side of theswitch. Touch tester probe to top screw terminal onopposite side of the switch. If switch is good, testerwill glow when switch is ON, but not when OFF.

2 Rotate the dial clockwise until the OFF tab passesthe arrow marker. Tester should not glow. If it

does, the switch is faulty and must be replaced.

Attach tester clip to one of the topscrew terminals. Touch the testerprobe to the top screw terminal onthe opposite side. Flip the switchlever from ON to OFF position. Ifthe switch is working correctly, thetester will glow when the switchlever is ON, but not when OFF.

Test each half of switch by attach-ing the tester clip to one screw ter-minal and touching the probe tothe opposite side. Flip switch leverfrom ON to OFF position. If switchis good, tester glows when theswitch lever is ON, but not whenOFF. Repeat test with the remainingpair of screw terminals. If eitherhalf tests faulty, replace the unit.

How to Test a Double Switch

Attach tester clip to one of thewire leads, and touch the testerprobe to the other lead. Set thetimer for a few minutes. If switch is working correctly, the tester willglow until the time expires.

How to Test a Time-delay Switch

Automatic switch: Attach thetester clip to a black wire lead, andtouch the tester probe to the otherblack lead. Flip the manual switchlever from ON to OFF position. Ifswitch is working correctly, testerwill glow when the switch lever isON, but not when OFF.

Programmable switch: Attach thetester clip to a wire lead, and touchthe tester probe to the other lead.Flip the manual switch lever fromON to OFF position. If the switch isworking correctly, the tester willglow when the switch lever is ON,but not when OFF.
