How to take lecture notes

Taking good notes is useful to processing information.

But it is a skill that has to be mastered.

These slides will help you.

Getting started.

Draw a line 1/3 of the way down the length of your page.

At the tope of the page, put the date of the lecture (today’s).

At the top of the left column, put “Main topic.”

At the top of the right column, put the heading “Key points.”

Listen, process, filter, write

It’s tempting to write down everything you see – don’t.

You can’t write down everything you hear – so don’t try.

Look at the slides and listen (visual and aural skills) and decide.

The French word renaissance, meaning rebirth, is used to describe a period of Western European history.

A time period in which remarkable artists and thinkers emerged. It marked the transition from medieval times to the modern world.
