Community Meeting Scheduled for New Webber Park Library Saturday Dec 6, 2014 9-11 The new Webber Park Library design team is eager to share the preliminary ideas that they have been developing this fall with the Northside community. The next commu-nity meeting for the New Webber Park Library will be held on Saturday, December 6th from 9 to 11 am at the Webber Community Center, located at 4400 Dupont Ave-nue N. Hennepin County staff and the project architects will review proposed library site plans and discuss early plan diagrams. For additional information on the Webber Park Library process, please visit the project’s website or contact Lois Lenroot-Ernt at (612) 543-8555.

Site Preparation and Deconstruction:

Preparation of the site for the future Webber Park Library began earlier this fall. Site fencing was in-stalled and soil sampling and analysis is underway. Deconstruction of the residential buildings began in early October and is expected to be complete in November. The deconstruction process is carefully coordinated to ensure materials are salvaged for reuse, recycling, or repurposing where possible.

RFI for Commercial Development:

Hennepin County Housing and Redevelopment Authority released a Request for Interest to sell the surplus property located just south of the new library, located at 4414 Hum-boldt Avenue North. The county is seeking a party that proposes to remodel or redevelop the property in a manner that is complementary with the library and the community. Responses to the Request for Interest are due on Novem-ber 21, 2014. Respondents are invited to display informa-tion on their responses at the December 6th community meeting. An update on the process will be provided at the December 6 community meeting as well. For additional in-formation on the 4414 Humboldt Avenue North property, please visit the RFI website or contact Thatcher Imboden at (612) 348-4191.

Metro Blooms Minneapolis Garden Awards Some of the most beautiful, creative and sustainable gardens in the Twin Cities will be honored at the Minneapolis Garden Awards from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, November 6 at Columbia Manor in Minneapo-lis. The annual event recognizes outstanding work in publicly visible gardens and is presented by Metro Blooms, a nonprofit organization that promotes environ-mentally sound gardening and landscaping practices. The garden awards program originally started in 1983 to recognize boulevard gardens in Minneapolis but has since grown far beyond its roots. Today Metro Blooms sends scores of trained volunteer evaluators to visit as many as 2000 gardens in the metro every year, and the program recognizes a wide range of categories, including congregation gardens, edible gardens, container gardens, and residential and business raingardens, among others. This year marks the first time an award will be given for a permaculture garden. The event will benefit Metro Blooms’ supporting the

evaluation and recognition of beautiful and ecologically functional landscapes. Metro Blooms partners with organizations, businesses, governments and watershed districts to encourage gardening and landscaping activities that protect the environment. One of its main initiatives is teaching people how to plant raingardens that prevent polluted stormwater from draining into lakes, rivers and wetlands. The awards ceremony will feature light fare, music and a cash bar. Tickets are $30.00. Advance ticket purchases are required. They are available at www.metroblooms.org. Minneapolis Garden Awards is supported by Midwest Home/Minnesota Monthly Magazines, Bachman’s, Plaisted Companies, Northeast Bank and others. Minneapolis Garden Awards
