How to Retrieve your 2016 IRS Tax Transcript

The following instructions are provided to assist students and parents on how to retrieve their IRS Tax Transcripts.

Transcripts are required for those students whose FAFSA records are selected for the process called verification. The

verification process cannot be finalized until this document is received along with the 2018-2019 Verification Worksheet.

1) Log into www.irs.gov and click on Get Your Tax Record

2) Click on Get Transcript Online

3) Click on CREATE ACCOUNT

4) You will need to register in order to use this service.

a. It should take less than 15 minutes.

b. It is secure and only YOU will have access to YOUR tax information.

c. You will only need to verify your identity once

d. There is no charge to sign up

5) Click on CONTINUE

6) You will need the following information about yourself to register

a. Full Name

b. Email address

c. Birthdate

d. Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN)

e. Tax filing status

f. Current address

7) Once you have this information, you will see at the bottom of the screen: Do you have this information

available?

8) Click on YES

9) The next screen informs you that you need a financial account to register. DO NOT be alarmed. Your tax

information is sensitive information and this is 1 of 2 ways used to ensure that no one but you is retrieving

your information. The financial account information is used to verify who you are ONLY. READ this screen

carefully as it explains in detail your next step.

10) If you have one of the items listed above, Click on YES. If you do not, click on NO. Exit out and then later return

and complete steps 1 – 10 once information is obtained.

11) The 2nd way to confirm your identity is by your cell phone number

12) Click on CONTINUE

13) Enter in the required information

14) Check your email account you provided.

15) Enter the one-time code on the screen below

16) Click on CONTINUE

17) Follow the remaining prompts and enter in the requested information where applicable.

18) It will request the financial account information – enter it

19) Click on CONTINUE

20) It will request your cell phone number – enter it

21) Enter the one-time code on the screen given

22) Click on CONTINUE

23) Remember you are requesting your 2016 Tax Return Transcript

24) We recommend that you save both an electronic copy (pdf) and a hard copy of this document for your records.

25) Exit Out

26) Submit the 2016 Tax Return Transcript and the 1819 Verification Worksheet to the Office of Financial Aid &

Scholarships

If you're unable to utilize this on line service or you prefer not to use Get Transcript Online, you may order a tax return

transcript and/or a tax account transcript by calling 800-908-9946. Please allow 5 to 10 calendar days for delivery.
