How to Report an Internship for Credit
Step 1: Log on to BearTracker through BearPAWS.
Step 2:
This is the page you should see once you log in.
Under "I want to ...",
click on "Report an
Internship for Credit".
Step 3:
This is the next screen you should see. The only thing that may be different is theoption that is currently selected for Internship Term.
From the drop-down
menu, select the
semester you will be
completing the
internship. More options
will be added as
time progresses.
Select the "Other" tab.
Enter the name of the organization
you are interning with here.
Enter the your job title here.
Click "Save" to progress to the next screen.
Step 4: You will now be able to enter the details of your internship. The first part on this
page is about the timeline and possible payment of the internship.
Check to make sure
the Job Title is correct.
You can enter a
specific Department
here as well.
Use the calendar
menu to choose your
start and end dates.
If you are being paid,
enter your pay rate.
Enter your estimated
weekly work hours.
This could be determined
by the number of credits
you need. (See Step 6)
Select how often you
are paid from the drop-
down menu. If it is
bi-weekly, select
"Weekly". If you
are not paid,
select "Unpaid".
Step 5: In this step you will enter the information for the person supervising you while you
are at the internship.
Fill in the supervisor's name, work address, phone number, and email address.Please make sure the email address is correct. This is how they will be able to
approve your internship and complete mid semester and final evaluations.
Use the drop-down
menu to indicate
whether your
internship is on or
off campus.
Step 6: In this step you will enter the information about the academic component you and
your faculty sponsor have agreed upon.
Scroll down for specifics.
You and your facultysponsor will determine whatyou would like to call yourinternship. Also, check tosee if they have a specific
Course Number they wouldlike you to use. The Registrar will take care of CRN later.
Credits will determine, or be set by, the number of contact hours youwill complete while at the internship. (See Step 4)
How many hours do I have to work for credit?
Fall or Spring
1 credit = 40 contact hours (on site) plus assigned academic assignments 3 credits = 120 hours/15 weeks = 8 hours/week
6 credits = 240 hours/15 weeks = 16 hours/week 9 credits = 360 hours/15 weeks = 25 hours/week
12 credits = 480 hours/15 weeks = 32 hours/week
Summer
1 credit = 40 contact hours (on site) plus assigned academic assignments 3 credits = 120 hours/12 weeks = 10 hours/week 6 credits = 240 hours/12 weeks = 20 hours/week 9 credits = 360 hours/12 weeks = 30 hours/week
12 credits = 480 hours/12 weeks = 40 hours/week Make adjustments if less than 12 weeks
Please enter your facultysponsor's name and email
address. If they have aspecific title (example: Dr.),
you can put it in the "Title" box.
Select "No" unless instructedotherwise. It is rare for an
internship to count for liberalarts credit since internships
tend to be hands on instead oftheory based.
Select "Yes" unless otherwiseinstrusted. Most internshipsare non-liberal arts creditbecause it is hands on.
This is where you will be ableto choose how you and yourfaculty sponsor want you to
be graded.
Select "Yes" if you'd
like your grade to be
out of a 4.0 scale.
Select "No" if not.
Select "Yes" if you'd like
your grade to be graded
on an S/U scale. Select
"No" if not.
Indicate if there are any
meeting dates with your
faculty sponsor (in person,
email, or telephone). Then
enter what mandatory
papers or projects have
been assigned. Any
additional assignments
(journals, articles, books, or
reviews) will go in the
bottom box.
Step 7: This step is all about you!
Your college address
can be your campus
mail box or, if you live
off campus, your
housing address.
Enter your
hometown address
information here.
Finish your hometownaddress. Then enter yourPotsdam email, your cellphone, and your major.
"Internship Major" is yourmajor. Also enter yourminor if that is what the
internship is for.
This information can
be found
on BearDeN.
Step 8:
Title your Internship Proposal and upload it here.
Click "Save" to submit the entire document.
You have 45 minutes to complete the "Report an Internship for Credit" and youcannot save your progress. When you are clicking "Save" you are submitting
the document for approval.
When you scroll down you will now see the below image.
Step 9:
If you have missed anything or typed it in incorrectly, the following information willappear. You are then able to go back and make changes.
If you do get the previous screen, scroll down to see where
the problem could be. There will be a notification in red below
the box that is incorrect.
To double check if the form
went through, go to "I want to
..." and click "View My Activity".
If it has successfully gone through there will be a
1 in Internships.
