East Jefferson Murder SuicideDoctor Shot & Killed While Treating Patient

A local Doctor was shot and killed by a patient while he treated others in his office near East Jefferson General Hospital in New Orleans yesterday.

The 73-year old shooter walked into the doctor's office, and killed the doctor with a single shot to the head. He then ran out of the office and into a Wendy's restaurant. Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office deputies were nearby and they responded and chased the shooter into a nearby Wendy's restaurant, where the shooter killed himself by putting the gun in his mouth and pulling the trigger.

The doctor, 75-year old Dr. Elbert Goodier, a urologist, was treating patients at the timeof the shooting. Colleagues said that Dr. Goodierwas a very kind and popular physician.

The shooter's family said that the shooter had been treated by Dr. Goodier in the past. While the shooter did not have a criminal background,his family said that he had suffered from mentalillness in the past.

Sketchy Details the Morning After

• This is just a horrible incident here,” Harvey County Sheriff T. Walton said last night, adding that while authorities have an idea about Ford’s motive, they’re not disclosing details at this time. “It’s going to be a lot of sad people before this is all over.”

• A Wichita Eagle report details Ford’s extensive legal woes both in Kansas and in his home state of Florida. According to the report, earlier this month, a woman filed an order of protection against Ford, alleging he’d strangled her.

• “He is an alcoholic, violent, depressed,” the woman wrote. “It’s my belief he is in desperate need of medical & psychological help!”

• The incident was the 49th mass shooting in the United States in 2016, and comes just days after a shooting spree in Kalamazoo, Michigan left six dead. Despite the fact that news of the Hesston shooting began circulating before last night’s GOP presidential debate, America’s gun violence epidemic wasn’t a topic of conversation.

• Kansas has some of the laxest gun laws in the country. The Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence and the Brady Campaign gave it an “F” rating in a 2013 state-by-state report, but the state has actually loosened its gun laws since that time.

• ISIS “will probably attempt to conduct additional attacks in Europe, and attempt to direct attacks on the U.S. homeland in 2016,” said Lt. Gen. Vincent Stewart, director of the Defense Intelligence Agency.

• James Clapper, the Director of National Intelligence stated ISIS and its eight branches were the No. 1 terrorist threat, and that it was using the refugee exodus from violence in Iraq and Syria to hide among innocent civilians in order to reach other countries.

• Clapper said ISIS was “taking advantage of the torrent of migrants to insert operatives into that flow,” adding that they were “pretty skilled at phony passports so they can travel ostensibly as legitimate travelers.”
