diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
Psalm 119 will do open heart surgery on those who are willing to submit their
lives to the care of the Great Physician
It is the Psalms that will show us the heart attitude
we nee to have to influence others…
Who is better F.I.T. than David to lead us on a
journey into the heart of God….
When one applies the principles of Psalm 119 to their heart … what will be
affected?
I. Attitude – What Prepared David for God’s Purpose in
his life….
There is only one possibility to account for
David’s unique relationship with God…
I Kings 9:4
and
I Kings 11:1-4
When David sinned he recognized it, dealt with it
and continued to follow God…
II. Appearance – What Prepared David For
Leadership…
Saul’s problem was not his appearance, it was a lack of a heart like David’s heart…
1Samuel 9:2
And he had a son, whose name was Saul, a choice young man,
and a goodly: and there was not among the children of Israel a goodlier person than he: from his shoulders and upward he was higher than any of the
people.
Compare I Samuel 16:7-2 with Song of Solomon 5:10 - “ruddy”
and … Isaiah 53:2-3
Men were drawn to Jesus, not because he looked like a leader, but because of the power of his
person …. Philippians 2:4-8
III. Anointing – What Prepared David For Power
Being a faithful shepherd prepared David for the throne
I Samuel 16:13 CR to Luke 16:11
(Read Psalm 70-71 on your own)
2 qualities enabled David to be a responsible recipient of God’s
anointing …
1. The Integrity of his heart and 2. His skill - Psalm 78:72
Compare with … Job 2:3 / 2:9/Prov. 11:3/Prov. 19:1/
Prov. 20:7
A proper heart attitude toward God’s Word will equip the
believer with everything he needs to do the mission God
has for Him – 2 Tim. 2:15/ 2 Tim. 3:16-176
David kept his balance through his heart attitude….
IV. Adoration – What Prepared David For Warfare
I Samuel 16: 14-23
David was prepared for spiritual warfare because he had established a praise relationship with God and his Word
Spiritual “wars” are won and lost in the heart – Joshua 2:11 / 5:1
Closing ….
David made his heart strong in the Word of God.
He did not merely collect information … he loved God
He did not merely study the Word of God … he loved it
He lived the Word of God
He prayed the Word of God
He meditated upon the Word of God …
…He sang the Word of God
He praised the Lord in every event of life
Therefore …
His heart was strong and ready for battle!
David’s Testimony ….
2Sam 17:10
And he also that is valiant, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, shall utterly melt: for all Israel
knoweth that thy father is a mighty man, and they which be with him are valiant men.
David didn’t have a perfect life …
He did have a heart for God!
He knew what it was to praise, worship and adore God!
Your heart surrendered to God will put you in the position to be anointed with power of the Holy Spirit who indwells you!
Let’s all develop a heart that can influence lives as David’s did!
