Dogs and Cats must be deloused on a regular basis. In addition to causing irritation and skin problems, the flea also carries a form of tape-worm. For this reason your pets should also be wormed regularly.

Professional advice should be sought before purchasing products. It is most important that dog products are not used on cats, as many of them are toxic for that species.

Fleas can bite humans, with possible allergic skin reactions.

MicrOchippingWhilst every dog owner is legally obliged to ensure that their dog is wearing a collar and identification disc, it is too easy for them to become caught or removed.

Microchipping is a more effective way of identifying a lost pet...chips don’t come off like collars can.

The microchip is the size of a grain of rice which is implanted under the skin. The microchip has a unique number which is stored on a national database. A quick scan of the chip by a dog warden, shelter or vet reveals the owner’s name and address and contact numbers from the database’s records therefore reuniting the animal with its owner quickly with the minimum amount of stress for all involved.

Flea cOnTrOlThe flea has four life stages:

egg, larvae, pupae and adult flea. It’s only at the adult stage

that fleas are noticed when living on your dog or cat. During the

egg, larvae and pupae stages they live in the carpet or your pet’s

bedding, when they hatch into adult fleas they jump onto your pets. Fleas like a warm host to live on and feed from which can be provided by your pet. Fleas can also live up to 90 days on your pet. Dogs and cats should be treated for fleas, every 3-4 months.

For dogs and cats with fleas Beaphar offer a four stage flea control:

1. Clean your dog of fleas with Beaphar flea spray.

2. Protect you pet from further infestation with Beaphar flea drops or flea collar.

3. Clean your house of fleas with Beaphar Defest (see page 13).

4. Worm your pets with Beaphar one dose wormer! Fleas carry tapeworm which can be transmitted to your pet.
