A sheet of MasoniteWaterTape

Step 1. Drawing up the outline

Lay the sheet of Masonite in an easel or up against the wall and using the first image of this PDF transfer the lines. Use a piece of chalk to do this. This is quite easy. Lay in the verticle lines on each side of the panel. Draw in the curve and then the circular sun shape. Use a template to ensure the sun is round. A dinner plate would work well for this.

Step 2. Painting in the background

For all painting I use a 50 mm wide artists Taklon brush. Refer to the second image in this PDF and lay in the Blue into the sky. Then lay Yellow into the sun area followed by the Green for the hills/foreground.

Step 3. Side Borders

Lay some tape onto either side of the panel. This will act as masking. Ensure the tape covers into the colour of the background. Use Pink to paint in these 2 borders. Remove the tape as soon as you have finished applying the paint.

Step 4. The house shape

Refer to the first image and draw in the house shape with a piece of chalk. It is basically a square with a triangle on the top. I have used a ruler to draw this up, but it could easily be done freehand also. Once the outline is drawn up paint in the interior with Purple.

Masonite can be purchased from most hardware stores. It is supplied in 3 mm and 4.8 mm sizing. Although I have used masonite any other wood based panel could be used. MDF Panels also make a great chalkboard.
