The woodland has distinct areas consisting of older woodland with large oaks, hazel coppice with an understorey of honeysuckle and bluebells; in contrast to areas of younger plantation mainly ash, silver birch which were planted as quick growing trees and shrubs to act as a shelter belt from the main road. The varied habitats provide homes for a variety of species from birds and mammals to smaller ones such as invertebrates that can be found in wood and leaf litter. WOODL AND

Foxholes Woodland is a 6.2 hectare (15 acre)

open space owned by East Herts Council,

surrounding Foxholes Estate

in Hertford. It is managed in

partnership with Countryside

Management Service (CMS).

There are two

play areas on the

site with a variety of

equipment for different age groups, all found in a nice

woodland setting. These are joined via the surfaced

1.3 mile circular walk around the woodland that

links into the local Rights of Way network, providing

access into the wider countryside, to local businesses,

leisure facilities and other council parks.
