We always recommend using a wired network connection. But if you are using wifi or mobile broadband, try to ensure you have the strongest possible signal.

Although Skype automatically reduces background noise, if you are calling from somewhere noisy you might struggle to hear the conversation. If you can, make sure you call from somewhere quiet and move your microphone closer to your mouth.

Finally, using Skype approved bits and pieces like microphones, headsets, handsets and webcams will make a world of difference to the quality of your call.

When you are using video chat, Skype will automatically determine the quality of video call that your system is capable of supporting. This is determined by many factors, such as the quality of the webcam you and the person you are calling are using, the speed of the internet connection you both have, and the specification of your computers.
