These citations can be exported directly to RefWorks, or they can be saved to a standardized file (RIS) for importing to Endnote, Mendeley, Zotero, or other reference managers. Additionally, RIS files can be imported to My Reference List within your APA Style CENTRAL account. SELECTING RECORDS TO EXPORT FROM APA PSYCNET On the search results page, select the records you wish to export. You can either select records individually by checking the boxes next to the records, or select all records on the page by checking “All” at the top of the results list. Once your selection is made, click the Export button.

How to Export Citations from PsycINFO® to RefWorks and Other Reference Management Software

On APA PsycNET®, citations may be exported from PsycINFO, PsycARTICLES®, PsycBOOKS®, or PsycCRITIQUES®. These citations can be exported directly to RefWorks, or they can be saved to a standardized file (RIS) for importing to Endnote, Mendeley, Zotero, or other reference managers. Additionally, RIS files can be imported to My Reference List within your APA Style CENTRAL account.

SELECTING RECORDS TO EXPORT FROM APA PSYCNET On the search results page, select the records you wish to export. You can either select records individually by checking the boxes next to the records, or select all records on the page by checking “All” at the top of the results list. In the pop-up window, you are prompted to choose one of the follow sets of records to export:

• selected records on all pages,

• selected records on that page, or

• all records on that page.

EXPORTING DIRECTLY TO A REFERENCE MANAGER Once you’ve selected the citations to export in the pop-up window, choose “Export to RefWorks” (or whichever reference manager you use) from the dropdown menu and click the Go button.

Your reference manager account should provide confirmation that the import from APA PsycNET is complete.

EXPORT FOR OTHER REFERENCE MANAGERS Once you’ve selected the citations to export in the pop-up window, choose “Export to Reference software” from the dropdown menu and click the Go button.

The RIS file (which is the standard file type for reference managers) will be saved to your computer. Be sure that your browser settings are not blocking pop-ups. Log into your reference management software, and follow their procedure for importing RIS files.

UPLOADING AN RIS FILE TO APA STYLE CENTRAL

Once you have a downloaded RIS file, you can import citations into My References in APA Style CENTRAL. Login to your individual account, and click Add References within the Research Center. Please see this linked handout for more detailed information.
