Because the usual 3G Wireless Manager (Mobilink or Toshiba Wireless Manager) cannot run before Windows logon, it is necessary to create a Windows dial-up connection that runs independent from a user account.

This is required even if there already is an existing Windows dial-up connection, using the 3G modem.

Preparation:Please make sure that the 3G Wireless Manger was opened at least once, configured according to the used SIM, and ensure that a connection is possible. This is also to make sure that the APN is correctly set. If your SIM card is secured by a SIM PIN, it is required to either store the SIM PIN permanently into the SIM card or to unlock the device by an automatic SIM PIN input.

1. The Wireless Manager has an option to store the SIM PIN per-manently. Please consult the help file of the Wireless Manager for details. However, because the SIM PIN will be stored on the SIM card, anyone who gets access to the SIM card can use it. Therefore, we do not recommend this option.

2. It is also possible to input the SIM PIN automatically by configuring the 3G modem. To do this, open the device manager and double click on “Toshiba F3507g Mobile Broadband Modem” or the “Toshiba Broadband (3G HSDPA) SM-Bus Minicard Modem”

1. Log on as Local Administrator!

2. Open the “Network and Sharing Center”.

3. Click on “Set up a connection or network”.

4. Click on “Set up a dial-up connection”.

Creating tHe (3g) dial-up ConneCtion:

3. Under “Extra initialization commands”, type “AT+CPIN=”your SIM PIN”

4. Click “OK”.

5. Reboot.

6. From now on, the SIM PIN is input automatically during the boot up process, and there should not be a request from the SIM PIN any more.

Since the SIM PIN is not stored on the SIM card itself, it is unusable for any unauthorised persons who may get hold of the SIM card.

If the connection fails, please check you settings again or contact your SIM card provider (3G service provider) for the correct settings.

Important note:Once you have completed the above, it is not possible to change settings (for pre Windows log on). Should you need to change the settings, you will have to delete the created “Dial-Up Connection” and start again from scratch.

5. Input the “Dial-in String” into the “Dial-up phone number” field. For most carriers, the string *99****1# or *99# will work. In case of dial-in problems, please contact your SIM card provider for the dial-in string.

6. Input “User name” and “Password” For most carriers, these fields can be left empty or filled with a

dummy. In case of dial-in problems, please contact your SIM card provider.

7. Input a “Connection name” (not mandatory).

8. Check the “Allow other people to use this connection” checkbox.

9. Click “Connect”.

10. Wait until a connection is made to ensure your settings are working.

17. Input the domain user credentials.

18. If prompted, type the username and password for the dial-up connection (not needed if above settings are correct), and then click the round, blue button to connect.

19. After the connection is established, Windows will use the initial credentials to logon to Windows. If that fails, you will be taken back to the Windows logon screen to input the Windows credentials. In case a VPN connection is configured to work on top of the dial-up connection, the behaviour might be different.

11. If the connection is successful, select the location.

12. Join the PC to a domain (establish a dial-up connection first, if needed) if not already done.

13. Configure a VPN connection to work on top of the 3G dial-up connection, if required (please check the VPN software manual for details).

14. Reboot.

15. After rebooting, press Ctrl-Alt-Delete (if required) to log on (if prompted).

16. Click the blue button at the lower right-hand corner of the page (see screenshot below). If you have more than one system-owned dial-up configuration, then all of them will appear here as a button that can be clicked. Click the button of the configuration created.
