In any form of creativity there is a element of escape. This manual is a compilation of quotes from the greatest escapists throughout time. With their quotes each describes how they got lost in there own worlds and hopefully gives you an insight on how to get lost in your own.

Marquise de Sévigné was a French aristocrat remembered for herletter-writing. Her witty and vivid letters were addressed to her daughter.

She is one of the great icons of French literature.

This quote comes from a letter Marquise sent to her daughter telling her to be patient rather then rushing through life.

Her daughter wants to be a ‘grown up’ and her mother is urging her to not rush through life and rather enjoy the simple pleasures of childhood

Paul David Hewson, most commonly known as Bono, the main vocalist of the Dublin-based rock band U2, is an Irish singer, musician, and humanitarian.

In Ireland, cities were divided into rich and poor; catholic and protestant. By knowing which street a person lived on it was possible to determine their religion, wealth and beliefs.

Pauls lyrics describe a place where there is no division or issues. He creates an idealistic world in which he can escape to for the five minutes and thirty-eight seconds of his song.

Edger Allan Poe:

Those who dream by day are covognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night.

Edgar Allan Poe was an American author, poet, editor and literary critic, considered a significant part of the American Romantic Movement.

Best known for his tales of mystery and the macabre, he is also credited with contributing to the emerging genre of science fiction.

Edgar was financially distressed throughout most of his life. He refused to take a ‘normal’ job and was one of the first well-known american writers who made his living from writing.

Being in hardship throughout his life Edgar maintained his ability to dream until the end.

Don’t stop dreaming.

James Matthew Barrie:

Sir James Matthew Barrie was a Scottish author and dramatist, best remembered today as the creator of Peter Pan. He moved to London, where he developed a career as a novelist and playwright.

This quote is a conversation between Peter and Wendy from the play: ‘The boy who wouldn’t grow up’. Peter is an ageless boy and is trying to convince an ordinary girl, Wendy, to come with him to a fantasy world called ‘Neverland’.

Peter is lonely in Neverland and asks Wendy to come with him to share this magical world together.
