World Environment Day, commemorated 5 June each year, is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment, enhancing political attention and action.

Locally, World Environment Day is celebrated during Gladstone Regional Council’s community event EcoFest. In conjunction with the annual festival, the Gladstone Arts Council presents Green Scenes, an environmental short film competition for budding and professional filmmakers.

The competition is open to all professional, amateur and emerging filmmakers. The call for entries goes out to the general public and anyone can enter regardless of their age or level of filmmaking experience. Schools, individuals, community groups and organisations are encouraged to enter and may submit as either a group or an individual.

All films should be no longer than 90 seconds in length and your film can be created on any platform you like. All we ask is that you supply us a finished film on VCD or DVD in Quicktime format (.mov) or Windows Media Player format (.wav, .wmv, .wpl, .avi). Programs with visible time-code will not be accepted. Just remember, other people will be viewing your work, so no offensive or poor taste films, please!

The judge’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. All accepted entries will be played during EcoFest at the Tondoon Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre (room adjacent to the Savour the Flavour café) on Sunday, 31 May 2015. The film sessions will be incorporated into the overall EcoFest program and promoted accordingly.

There is no limit on the number of people that can be involved in a film, but each name must be in the credits! An individual or group is not restricted to being involved with or making just one film. Multiple entries from individuals or groups are acceptable.

Package the film properly. Place a label on the disk/film identifying the title of the film/video and include a contact phone number. All entries must also have the following:

• A title and credits acknowledging all contributors to the film, including music

• A brief explanation of the concept behind the film (200 words maximum)

• Entries shall be no more than 90 seconds in length• Be accompanied by an entry form and the $5 entry fee

All films copies accepted become the property of Gladstone Arts Council and the Gladstone Arts Council reserves the right to show your film.

Please remember copyright considerations, if you infringe any forms of copyright, including music use, we will not be able to show your film.
