SAP Certification: How to Approach and Passa SAP Certification

Me, after passing Six SAP Certifications, I thought it is time for me to share my experiences, tips and ideas with the user community on passing a SAP Certification. SAP Certificationis a tensed affair not because of its toughness, but, because of the money involved in it

(gambling on one day cricket match ). This is particularly true, in case if you have alsoattended SAP Training at SAP Education or SAP Authorised Training Institutes. There aremany people who have invested everything for just a Certificate. Me also one of such bunch

of jokers (my wife says !!! ) who invests everything in education / certification, and atthe end of the day, what you get is a peace of paper. However, the value of certificationwill come along with you and definitely recognised your efforts in the long run. There aremany people still blame the certification process itself, because they feel that SAP has nottested their knowledge properly or they might have failed in one of their SAP Certifications orthey may feel SAP Certification is a waste of money. Probably, this blog is not for so calledintelligent people. I know the importance of hands on experience, but at the same time yourfundamentals must be clear to work on a system. I have seen people who are having verygood knowledge and 5 end to end implementations under their belt, but failed. I cannotblame their knowledge, I feel, there is a GAP in approach in attempting SAP Certification. This blog is for those who are really motivated to crack the SAP Certification at any cost and

prove themselves to add one more A4 size paper to the list of their certificates

I would like to summarize some my personal experiences, tips and ideas, may be helpful inapproaching and cracking SAP Certification.

Identify your strengths: Before writing a certification first know your strengths. If you wantto write a certification in a particular area, you should know whether you have worked inany of those areas and gained any functional knowledge / domain knowledge / end userexperience / configuration experience / coding experience / training etc. Note that everybodycannot get all the opportunities in all the above areas. But, you should able to Identify yourstrengths with respect to these areas, then decide which Certification you are required toattempt.

Understand SAP Certification Policies: Unfortunately, SAP is having different type ofpolicies with reference to SAP Certification in different countries. I had to travel from

India to Malaysia in order to write my SAP BW Certification . Dictionary meaning saysPolicy means, the rules are same for every one. But, unfortunately, SAP Education policy

change from country to country, person to person and organisation to organisation. They

are very complex, layman like me cannot understand . First contact your local SAPEducation Team and understand what is their policy applicable for your case and get awritten confirmation that you are eligible to write the certification. Sometimes, it may sohappen that you are eligible to write SAP Certification on day 1 and surprisingly may not beeligible on day 2.

Formal Training: If you are really new to an area, but intended to write SAP Certification, you need to attend the formal training. In some countries, SAP says, you must get trainedfrom SAP Education / SAP Authorised Training Partner. But, in other countries, you canregister yourself and write the exam. If you are fortunate enough to afford the money, then,it is recommended to get some sort of formal training. There may be some exceptionalpeople who has written some Certifications without formal training. But, please note all thecertification you cannot adopt the same approach. Some of the Certifications really testyour ability and conceptual knowledge. Please note that unless you are formally trained, you cannot reach the level of passing the Certification Exam. If you pass such certifications

without having any knowledge and training, then you are a star

Plan in advance: You must plan in advance. At least couple of months are really requiredfrom the date of start of your formal training and attempting the certification. If you areprivileged to get a formal training from SAP, you would get lot of new concepts every day

and will have less time to practice and study, then your next day starts for new movie .Therefore, hardly you get any time to master the things. Since, you have gone through everypage in detail, probably, you may in a better position position to attempt the examination.

Exercises: At the end of the each chapter, there used to be exercises, but do not worry ifyou are not able to complete them. In my whole life, I could not complete all the exercises

in a book (little incompetent !!! LOL ). Please note that the exercises are given only toget clarity on the theoretical and conceptual knowledge. They are not intended to makeyou master or test your hands on exercises. Therefore, do not put much stress even if youcannot complete them.

After Training - Before Examination: I would say this is the real crucial stage. During thetraining period, you never had chance to revise anything. But, this is the period where youwill really put the concepts into your mind.

• Read each Certification Curriculum book for not less than FIVE times, very RELIGIOUSLY, before going toexamination. First time, it would take longer period, but the more number of times you read, the time wouldbe reduced. You must keep a notes and note down the important points. Meanwhile, you also highlight anyimportant points with marker and note some questions with pencil. But, all my Certification books are filled

with different marker colours, so could not read anything

• Give more importance to chapters with +++ or ++ ratings in the syllabus. You may expect more number ofquestions out of these chapters.

• You are not advised to memorise the things, but, try to read in order to understand the concepts. Because,in certification, SAP is trying to test your conceptual knowledge, but not your memory.

• Try to answer the questions given at the end of the each chapter.• Practice number of questions during this period. There are number of yahoo / google groups, where you

can find number of sample questions. Try to attempt them. Do not worry, if you are only able to correctfew in your first attempt. Even me used to get few correct answers only. If it is wrong, understand why itis wrong, if it is correct, why it is correct, this is the only way, you can clear the conceptual understanding, rather than blindly remembering the answers.

• There are number of pictures / graphs that are being given in the Certification material. Please do not lookthem as nice looking coloured pictures. Try to analyse them in functional / technical perspective. Hopefully, you will find lot of meaning from them. Then read the underlying text in conjunction with those pictures. You will see much and better confidence view.

• If you have any time try to go through help.sap.com, where the concepts are written in crystal clearlanguage. If you find any time and also go through some of the threads on SDN, that would be a bonus.

Day before examination:

• Know the address of your examination center. Otherwise, you may get panic in searching for the center

tomorrow morning • Go to bed little early.• Do not read too much the whole night, it may not help, moreover, you may be sleepy in the examination.

On the day of examination:

• Get up little early and have relaxed bath, take adequate breakfast.• See if you have time and can rush through pages, but not spend too much time here, you will forget going

to exam. • Ensure that you have identity card (passport / driving license) or admission ticket, pen / pencil etc.• Ensure that you reach half an hour in advance to the examination time. One time, I could not reach the

examination center due to traffic and I am forced to reschedule my examination.• Whoever be the person, there will be definitely some tension boiling inside. But, try to keep yourself as

much relaxed as possible. Just think, even if you do not pass, it is not the end of the world, still there is atomorrow. Be calm.

In the Examination Hall:

Before coming to the examination, you must have enquired the pattern of the examination. In earlier pattern, you can still get partial credit for partially correct questions. However, fornew pattern, SAP only will award marks if all your answers / sub answers are correct in aquestion. Even if you make one sub-question incorrect, you will not get any marks for thetotal question. Therefore, your concepts must be crystal clear, you cannot take chances to

put lotteries in the examination center , whereas in old pattern, many people used to put

lotteries for unknown questions (including me ), as you were not going to loose anything. No negative marking is there in either current or old pattern of valuation.

• Ensure you have completed all the formalities, like filling the form containing the name, contact details, address (where you should get your certificate) etc.

• Use elimination technique - First try to identify the wrong questions, which you can identify very easily, thenfinally you will reach the right answers.

• Concentrate on Single Answered Questions - For certain questions are called single answered questions, which will have radio buttons, only one question will is the correct answer. I heard that they have higherweightage, but not sure. Ensure that you reach the correct answer by using elimination technique.

• Try to attempt the easy questions first - Try to attempt the easy questions first, then this will give youconfidence and keep you in better frame of mind.

• Mark the questions - If you cannot answer the question completely, then put them as "Marked question",then at the end you can easily identify such questions and complete the answers. Even if you do not put as"Marked Questions", still you can come back and complete them, it would waste your valuable time.

•Take few minutes break - Go to wash room and come back, your mind may be recharged.

• Do not worry much about the time - You should usually get ample time. Every time, I used to get time togo through all the questions 3 to 4 times. Therefore, in my opinion, time will not be a constraint, unless

somebody spends more than an hour on a single question • Give last ten minutes for re-look at all questions - At this point of time, you do not have the time to read the

question, only look at the question with your eyes and ensure that you have answered all questions. So, gothrough in this fashion for all the questions.

• Relax - If you are confident, then you can click submit button, if you are shivering, just sit, relax and closeyour eyes, the system will take your session and issue the results. If you pass you will see Congratulations, otherwise, you will see your failed message. You can note down the marks obtained chapter wise on aplain paper.

• Even if you pass or fail, do not much worry about it, calm / relax and come out of the examination hall.

After the Examination:

• You should get your hard copy of the certificate within 4 - 6 weeks of time from the date of yourCertification.

• If not contact your Local / Global SAP Education Team, they should be able to help you out.• Contact SAP Education Team for password of your S ID. This you can use in order visit Service Market

Place (https://service.sap.com). Do not share this User ID and Password with others.• Contact SAP Education Team for your Certification Logo, which you can use on your CV.• Earlier SAP used to send S ID cards. I got for my three certifications, but not for other three. But, I do not

know where I misplaced

Hopefully, I believe that I have covered most important points and will be useful forSAP Certification aspirants. This is the approach I used to follow. If you have any betterapproach, you are always welcome with suggestions and updates.

All the best.

Best Regards,

Ravi

I have no idea with them. You may have contact the local examination center where youhave appeared. I have read some miserable stories of not receiving their Certificates etc.when passed from Pearson. You may have to continuously follow them up. I am sorry, but Ido not know why SAP is reluctant to look into streamline the process with Pearson.

Ravi,

Fortunately i had to see the post from you on Certification.

My god, i have to think now twice to go for certification.

Excellent dear......i have gone through every line of your explanation.

Actually, i am not able to spend that much money for training and thought to go and registerand attend for it.

Now i need to think seriously

What could be the best site for exercises dear?

Thanks you so much for your time

Hi Narasimhulu,

I think in India if you have two years of experience, then you can go and write theCertification. The rules for certification in India are little weird. Please check with SAPEducation Team, they may ask for your CV to validate. If they feel you are OK, then youshould be able to just pay the certification fee and write the examination (without training).Fortunately, in UK, we do not have such bizzare rules.

Currently, FI and CO Certifications are separate, if you want to clear them, you need towrite them individually. But, I would suggest you may first concentrate on FI. This is prettyeasy examination, I believe, you do not find any difficulty in passing the exam. But, CO, isdefinitely demanding and you should have through knowledge particular CO-PC and CO-PA.

On each chapter of the syllabus books, you have the exercises. If you get those books, thenyou can practise those exercise.

Please let me know if you would like to know any specific details.

Ravi

26-Mar-2012 4:22 PM Narasimhulu Konnipati Ravi Sankar Venna in response to

Yes Ravi.....you are right. In India, we have that policy.

I will have to enroll for the certification, not in next 2 months....atleast after 3 to 4 months.

I hope i will clear the exam, the main doubt is whether i need to go for Foundation course(Associate) or Second level.

I am still in confusion

Could you please demonstrate few words on 1st level and 2nd level dear?

Thanks

26-Mar-2012 4:31 PM Ravi Sankar Venna Narasimhulu Konnipati in response to

As I told you in the Blog, this is a tensed affair, if you are spending money on certificationmeans, you must ensure that you are going to get the certificate.

Associate Exam - Just goes by the syllabus book. Most of the questions are from thesyllabus books. Hopefully, if you read the books for 5 to 6 times, you should be familiar withthe questions. For Associate level, if you have 2 to 5 years of experience, that may be reallyadded value.

Page 8: How to Crack a Sap Certification

Professional Exam - It will not only test the text book knowledge, but the questions on mostlybased on the practical experience. It would definitely test your ability to give right answersin different practical scenarios. Mostly, scenario based questions. Hence, in my opinion, ifyou have 8+ years of solid experience, then you may go for this. For appearing professionalcertification, associate level examination is NOT a pre-requisite.

I would suggest you may attempt Associate Level first and get some more exposure, thentry for Professional Level, if you are really interested. If you are directly going to ProfessionalLevel, without knowing the depth, if any thing goes wrong, then it would be total wastage ofmoney.

Hope this clarifies.

Ravi

Hi,

There is a big contradiction between these two parts of your article:

1) "Practice number of questions during this period. There are number of yahoo / googlegroups, where you can find number of sample questions. Try to attempt them. Do not worry,if you are only able to correct few in your first attempt. Even me used to get few correctanswers only. If it is wrong, understand why it is wrong, if it is correct, why it is correct, this isthe only way, you can clear the conceptual understanding, rather than blindly rememberingthe answers."

2) "PS: Please do not waste your money on bogus web sites, who are selling the questions /useless materials."

I think you should make up your mind: either you recommend usage of the samplecertification questions for preparation or you do not.

With this article the author attempted to create a guide for passing an SAP certification. Firstthing that stroke my attention was that the author claimed to pass various SAP certifications6 (!!!) times. I cannot imagine any meaningful reason why someone needs to do it 6 times.Next, the article is unnecessary wordy but at the same time fails to provide some importantinformation, such as links for the registration for SAP certification, the exam structure, and the scoring method. Moreover, some of the recommendations, such as "Read eachCertification Curriculum book for not less than FIVE times, very RELIGIOUSLY, beforegoing to examination.", are simply ridiculous taking into account that depending on SAPcertification the course books in total may contain 500-1000 pages. The time that peopleusually have for preparation do not allow to read this number of pages 5 times "veryRELIGIOUSLY". Overall, I feel that for the author it was more important to share somepersonal and for many people useless recommendations like "Go to bed little early", than toprovide people with a robust guide for an SAP certification.

Hello Ravi

My advice is pay attention during the SAP course when it's a certification that follows rightafter a SAP course. That does the trick for me basically. I finished up my last certificationbefore everyone was logged on to do their certification and passed it with a nice score.

I'm not a "certification" evangelist though, I don't see the huge added-value of a SAPcertification the way some see it. To me it's yet another exam, it proves you have obtained acertain level of "knowledge" on a topic but you can still suck at putting it to practice. As longas that issue exists it will undermine the added value of a certification.

For the larger exams like Technology Consultant or Solution Manager professional, reading the courses (or related content) once is all I would do really. That's already verytime consuming, I won't go marking words and learning things out of my head but I canunderstand everyone has his/her own methods of gathering / saveguarding knowledge.

What interests me though is to what extent your certifications have helped you out? Did ithelp on a personal level, on a professional level or both or?

Kind regards

Tom

I do not see any contradiction between my statements. It is up to the readers how theyunderstand my words.

I am not sure whether you are aware or not there are number of websites and people sellingand claiming their SAP materials are the best to pass SAP Certification. This is billionsdollars illegal market. Please note that this NOT the only source to practice questions. Iwould rather suggest to search for yahoo or google groups for these certification questions. You MUST practice the questions which are available at your institute or friends, but not byapproaching unauthorized people and wasting your money. If they are not available frameyour own questions and practice.

This is a question depends on person to person and situation to situation. When I havewritten certification first time, I have practised thousands of questions. Now, I can pass thesame certification examination 100 out 100 times without looking at the book.

Practice ! Practice ! Practice ! - Practice makes man perfect - Do not take any risk with yourmoney being invested.

Cheers,

Dear Ghanem,

I do not need to make up any false claims and put up on a blog on SCN forums. If you are

really in doubt, I will provide you with my S ID numbers, you can please check with SAP It seems that you have misunderstood, I have not done the certification for 6 times, but 6

certification in different areas in SAP. Hope my profile gives you info.

Learning is a process of life, you cannot be like FICO 4.6 consultant for life, things arechanged, technology has changed. It is just your OWN interest whether to prove yourselfor not. I am really not sure whether you have gone through the SAP Certification Forumon SCN, number of times, I have provided the information on registration, certification, feestructure etc. To tell you frankly, there is no authentic website to claim the pass percentages.I would recommend somebody to sit at home rather wasting their time and effort, if theycannot afford to read 500 pages. It is only my personal suggestion to "go to bed little early".If the people are happy to study the whole night and reach the examination center directly, then it is their personal wish and choice.

Cheers,

27-Mar-2012 7:44 AM Ravi Sankar Venna Tom Cenens in response to

Dear Tom,

I am not going into a discussion whether certification is good or not. That is a differentdiscussion altogether. There are number of websites and forums still discussing and fightingon this subject.

All the people are not fortunate enough to afford the SAP Certification from SAP or theirEducation Partners. The other side of the coin is really harsh. There are people who struggleto gather all relevant material and information available. Certification does not mean that itis ultimate thing in life. This is only a basic qualification and they can work on the systemand practice confidently. Nobody can deny the importance of hands on experience. Forexample, BPC 10.0 is the hottest skill in the market, nobody can claim that they are masterin this product, as the product itself is not enough matured. The only way you can claim theadequate knowledge to the prospective employers is by way of Certification. This does notmean that people are master in this subject.

I have 10 plus years of consulting experience, if I do a certification, it may not make anysubstantial value to me, but in case of a fresher definitely, this is a great value added andmoral booster.

It all depends on the person to person how they prepare the examination, you may pass theexamination in a single time reading, somebody may require 5 times or more, somebody canjust pass the examination out of sleep. The kind of preparation depend son your skill levels.First time, it may require 10 times reading, when you reach a master level, you do not needany reading to pass the certification.

For your kind information, I never counted any future benefits for my certification. I havedone the certifications out of my own interest and sheer passion on SAP to learn newtechnologies. I cannot quantify whether the certifications have given me any benefits or not. Some certifications have benefits in one way, some other way and some are noway. I wouldonly suggest not to worry to much about the benefits about personal or professional level, just do it perfectly and passionately, let the benefits come on its own way.

One thing I can surely say, I am very well respected in my Organisation, among clientscolleagues and friends. This is more important for me than any monetary benefits, whichI do not care much. I am confident enough to say that I deserve the respect among thecommunity not just for my certifications, but a whole package of skills and attitude.

Hope my statement makes sense.

Dear Gahem / Tom,

Please be noted that the person who is advising to users who are interested to attend for theexamination is not a fresher, or this is not for a shake of time or popularity.

If you go through the entire explanation of Ravi's on Certification post, you will definitelyunderstand what / how to prepare for the exam. No one has this much time to tell or explainto users in real time.......He is feeling responsibility. Let him....

NOT only that, he also explained the value of the money along with Certificate. Ravi istrying to address many users not to go for false/fake websites and spend lot of money forcertification. Instead they can go for google, yahoo and even they can borrow the materialfrom friends. This is absolutely correct.

When it comes to the statement "Go to bed a bit early", being a consultant with 6certifications, one should have the minimum knowledge on pre-preparation to exam and thathelps a lot.

I would always welcome critics but with through analysis

Hope you understand

Dear Ravi

There are ways to get a free certification exam because top contributors on SCN wereprovided with one free of charge exam of choice in 2011. I was one of them and I havescheduled a Solution Manager certification from that voucher.

I agree that you learn by doing certifications so it's not a waste of time. Most of mycertifications were gathered when I started out as at that time it did make more sense to methan it does now. Now it's more like you say, out of passion, interest and willingness to learnand experience things.

Dear Narasimhulu

To avoid confusion: I'm not judging him, I'm just commenting . I think it's interesting tosee multiple persons view point on certifications. That doesn't mean we all have to agree onevery pointer of course.

Not spending money on false/fake websites is definitely a good point but then again I onlythink desperate persons would do that to be honest. I've seen people cheating on SAPcertifications in the past, working together with three persons and still failing (that was thefun part).

I'm always up early, ridiculously early even sometimes so I can understand the tip "Goto bed a bit early". That's a personal statement as is a blog post as it captures personalsentiment, I don't see what's wrong with that.

I don't need an analysis to voice my own opinion though. I have three certifications myself soI share my own experience by commenting on this blog post.

My opinion differs but I expect it differs for everyone. Everyone has his/her own methods. These tips might help out some community members but in the end everyone should seekout their own way of doing things, what works best for them.

I'm trying to understand where the differences lie in perception (geographical, sentiment, situation based, value based) so by no means am I joking about this post.

Thanks all for your comments.

I do not have any personal intention or motivation in saying "Go to bed a bit early".

My only intention is if they go to bed little early, it would give the mind proper rest andtomorrow morning in the examination hall, they may feel fresh with relaxed brain. But, it their

personal choice when they want to go bed Hope late night sleep should not affect theircertification result in anyway.

Thanks and Regards,

Dear Tom,

Why many people are saying the same is, they have seen such kind of instances and theopinion has come from their personal experiences. So I feel there no harm in sharing that.

You are right on your statement that the opinion differs from person to person, but whenyou look into the common help seeking from experts and the awareness they are looking foris......how to get certified.......I hope you understand my point.

If i don't know something, certainly i look for some one to help or guide.....for all of them..thisis a kind of brainstorming session to make them aware of frauds.

You have the right to voice on blogs, i agree, but think in the perspective of many users whoare looking out help, being an expert, one should be good enough to observe the pulse ofaudience.

I hope you understand

Hi Mr.Ravi,

I strongly agree with you that last night before Exam we should keep our mind cool andshould give our mind & brain full rest .It helps to manage any kind of anxiety arises duringthe exam...The person who is doing hardwork for the last 3-4 months ,he/she can not makea huge diffferance in the last night. There is a word call "assimilation" ...We read so much, wetalk on so much things but scientifically our brain needs some time when it assimilates allthose systematically...

The person who is decided to give certification exam(Associate level) ,should preparehimself /herself to read the books very carefully..Because the question pattern demands thatthe examinee should be well through the main sylabus...

Thanks for the valuable input.I must appreciate that somebody has understand the need ofdiscussing the nitty -grity of this exam..Because i have never been able to get any personin the market who helped me with any small advice also otherthan SCN community....Sokeep up the good work and express your personal experience again & again..My experiencewould be different but the synopsis will be same with eachother...

Atleast something is better than nothing....

Why did the "emotion icons" are removed from my blog?

Moderators - Can you please tell me what is wrong in that? Can you please justify youractions? When I see other blogs, the "emotion icons" are not being removed. When you areremoving something, you should also give the reason why they are being removed? Thenwe will follow your "tips" to write a blog. You cannot have the different rules for differentblogs and different people. If there is no use of these icons, why you have included thisbutton in this new SCN? One way you are saying to use a new functionality and in anotherway you are removing the same?

I would appreciate the answer from the Moderators.

Hi Anand,

Please go to the following link in order to find the syllabus for each certification track.

http://www.sap.com/services/education/certification/certificationfinder.epx#

If you see there is no difference as far as syllabus is concerned.

C_TFIN22_64 is based on ECC 6.0 + Enhancement Pack 4 Functionalities will be included

C_TFIN22_65 is based on ECC 6.0 + Enhancement Pack 5 Functionalities will be included

I wondered there are two certifications coming with the same code.

C_TFIN22_65

One with enhancement Pack 5 and other one without any enhancement pack. I could notsee how SAP would distinguish between these two courses. You need to check with SAP.

If you are really worked on the systems EHP4 or EHP5, you please book accordingly.Otherwise, if you are really not much comfortable then you can go for simple ECC 6.0Management Accounting Certification.

Hi Ravi,

Quite an informative post. Thanks for sharing some important links in the post. I am aSAP SD consultant with a work experience of 20 months and plan to apply for SAP SCMcertification in the months to come (depends on eligibility). With respect to SAP SCM

certification, I have some questions for you.

1. Can you please share the complete process of certificate application process.

2. As far as SAP SD and MM are concerned, Is SAP SCM the correct certificate to

apply for?

2. If I am not wrong, with a work exp of 20 months associate certification would be a

more logical bet than professional certification. Sorry but I am a little new to SAP

certification process, hence doesn't have a fair idea of how to shape up my

certifications.

2. By looking into your experience of SD, CRM could be recommended certification. SCM ismore relevant for people with more MM experience.

3. If I am in your place, I would only go for Associate Examination. Professional exam wouldneed much more clear understanding of not only concepts but also business processes.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Hi Ravi,

Thanks a ton for your quick response to my questions. Few more queries.

1. I have been working in SD module for the past one and half years. During this

time, I also developed some knowledge of MM. Both the modules are quite

integrated with each other and to some extent it becomes imperative for a

person to have fair idea of MM if one works for SD and viceversa. Which of the

certifications-CRM/SCM would do justice to my needs? Is it possible to have

both under my belt? Please comment.

2. I would prefer to have a career path comprising of both SD and MM modules.

Any idea of how to shape up my certifications with the above stated preference?

3. Are certifications the only means to have growth in SAP area? I mean is there

anything else that we need to concentrate along with the certifications?

4. Does a certification policy vary from country to country?

Your answers to my questions would definitely help me to have a fair idea of how to shape

up a career in SAP functional area. Well begun is half done.

Hi Divix,

1. Though you are conversant with both the areas, you must identify your strong areabetween MM and SD. Because CRM / SCM are diverse area, you cannot travel in both thedirections. You should make choose one of them either CRM or SCM, but not both. Beforeselection, analyse your strength, market conditions, job opportunities and long term careeretc.

2. As I have explained you, both are diverse fields, you cannot go on both boats. I amnot sure, but CRM would be a better bet for you considering your experience and outsideopportunities.

3. There are consultants without certification might be earning thrice of my salary Initially, certification may help to you a good extent to enter into the market. Once you are already

Page 29: How to Crack a Sap Certification

in the market, they may not add that much values, unless you are certified on very new /hottest skills.

Certification is - 10%

Configuration Knowledge - 40%

Business Process Knowledge 50%

In addition, you should have very good communication, presentation and client facing skills.

The more you grow, the importance of configuration will be reduced as a consultant, but theclient will how quickly you can understand their business processes.

You cannot see all in a single person. Within the best of our abilities you need to perform

4. It is a whole big Hollywood story. You only need to ask SAP Education Team what is story

in that country

Hope I have best attempted your questions. Please let me know if you have any furtherquestions.

18-May-2012 9:06 AM Ravi Sankar Venna Sabapathi Durairaj in response to

Hi Saba,

If you are in India, I am not sure whether you would be eligible for writing certification basedon 2 years of end user experience. I believe they are expecting 2 years of implementationexperience. This you may please have to check with SAP. Unless you get a writtenconfirmation that you are eligible, nothing can be said regarding the eligibility.

If you are really good in MM, first I would attempt MM Certification, may at later if you arestill interested you can go ahead with SRM Certification. If you have already worked on SRMand if you strongly believe you can attempt the examination without training, then there isno point in investing huge amount with SAP Education Partner. You can even study on yourown and attempt the examination.

There is no guarantee that Certification would give you definite job in consulting arena. Yes,if you are certified, definitely, you would be better placed in order to get a job in the market. But, then it all depends how you perform your technical and other rounds of interview withyour prospective employer. The market is very volatile and the technologies are becomingredundant at much faster rate. Therefore, I am not sure whether today's technologies aregive any opportunities after 5 or 6 years.

My suggestion is not to go for full length training by investing huge amount of money. If needtake help from your friends, work hard on your own and try to attend only the Certification.

All the best.

Thanks for the update.

For me it looks every policy in any organisation will have a clear cut commercial logic

It is a misconception that everybody who attended the SAP training will be passed andwhoever passed will get the job. There is no guarantee of job on your certification. There arenumber of people in the market failed to get the jobs based on their SAP Certifications.

There is no other way if you want to write a certification in India. You need to respect theirpolicies. Otherwise, you travel to some other country where the SAP Education policy rulesare not stringent. But, I do not think it is a wise decision. There is no guarantee that youtravel to different country and pass the Certification.

The only suggestion is do not much about the consulting job. Work hard to learn thefundamentals and concepts with much clarity. Practice more on the system. Grab everyopportunity at your work on SAP. Learn as many things as possible in SAP and also try tounderstand the business processes behind the configuration. (Do not just learn SAP).

Keep applying for new jobs and try to prove your knowledge in the interviews. Unfortunately,

there is no short cut for hard work.

I did not appear for the Associate level exam (C_TAW_71). Do you think it is a gooddecision to aim directly for the Professional level?

Also, I received all the materials prescribed by SAP from a senior colleague who passed theexam and I have full-time access to a real business SAP system. In that case, do I need toattend a classroom/OLT training?

Please share your thoughts as I am very confused about this decision.

Hi Tom,

Hopefully, I should be one of those lucky guys this year

The Solution Manager that I have passed is "Solution Consultant - SAP Solution Manager4.0 - Solution Manager Implementation Tools". I felt the questions are very straight forwardand if somebody read the syllabus books for 3 to 4 times, it should be sufficient.

You may be correct the professional exam will test the abilities in its own way and the examyou are referring is more technical related.

Hi Swagata,

Thank you and good to know that you like my thread.

I believe passing Associate Examination is not a pre-requisite for appearing the ProfessionalLevel Examination. Definitely the expectations are different when it comes to professional

examination (though I have not yet appeared one ). In a ideal situation a consultantshould have 5 to 8 years of strong experience. My only suggestion is you go to professionalexamination only if you really confident that you are going to crack the examination. Youcannot invest the same amount of energy, effort, time and money again. Though failuresgive you immense power to redetermine yourself, they are very difficult to digest.

Unless you are in a desperate need to crack the Professional Examination, I would suggestyou go for "Associate Level" exam first. Once, you have passed, then you can plan in futurefor professional level, if you are really interested. In your case, there should not be an issue,as you have 4 years of relevant experience and your should be eligible for writing AssociateLevel Examination. Meanwhile, you may please contact SAP Local Education Team forfurther guidance.

Kind Regards,

Ravi

PS: Most people really not interested to know whether you passed professional level orassociate level (could be many people does not know the difference between these two)

I'm afraid those vouchers were controlled regionally and it looks like those based in Indiahad difficulties accessing them. I am pretty certain that the program won't be reinstated forthis year and that is a shame. But perhaps Laure Cetin can further provide details aroundthe reputation system and rewards. That was very accomodating of SAP Education, and I suppose we (SCN) created quitea challenge for them with the international coordination of the certification centers sinceeach region has autonomy. I'm glad it worked for you Tom and that SAP Belgium wasobliging. It will be interesting to understand, going forward if there are plans to make accessto eacademies virtual for the test taking. I'm downloading a whitepaper myself from here:

E-Academies: Train for Certification When and Where You Like

3-Jun-2012 3:35 PM Susan Martin Marilyn Pratt in response to

Hi all,

the assumption was made with the US event that most of the contibutors would either be inthe USA or want to test in the US so the initiative was planned with Pearson VUE vouchersas they offer the flexibility to take the test at any of the PV test centers offering SAP testsaround the world without having to decide beforehand where that would be. As it turned outa large proportion of the list we got were from India, where we do not currently offer most ofour exams via PV and Tom from Belgium, where we also did not offer SAP tests via PV until

recently ( that has now changed for the next time Tom ) . As Tom said SAP Educationworked together the Contributors and got them solutions so they could all test. It is right -the program will not be reinstated in the same way this year but we are definitely looking athow we can reward contributors like Ravi who are of such value to the community. If youkeep an eye out here http://scn.sap.com/community/training-and-education/certification weplan to publih details soon

Hope that helps,

although the monetary benefits etc. should also pay an important role in getting certified(and no I am by no means implying that it is of lesser importance or should not be improved

) I cannot help but cheer that you highlight a point which sometimes gets lost. Whenwe have conducted surveys of the community and their motivation for getting certified andhow it has helped them in their job many of their responses were similar to yours - which I

Hi Sue,

Thank you very much for your constant encouragement on this forum. Please let me know ifyou have any such initiatives planned for the contributors in UK. (where I am residing).

I appreciate that you have currently planned this initiative for US contributors. As a trueglobal organisation, if SAP can extend the similar rules across the globe (not sure about theconstraints!!!), then the participants will be really proactive and give their best contributionsto make more successful SCN. However, currently, I can see there are number of policyconstraints in certain regions (like 2 years implementation experience etc. in APACregion). It would be appreciate if this rule can be amended for the contributors on SCN.The contributors will be more productive in case if SAP can offer them to write the SAPcertification irrespective of their number of years of implementation experience / regionwhere they are residing etc. However, SAP can limit the number of top contributors fromeach area, who can benefit from this initiative.

Hey Ravi,

Your so right about the certification study... I completed mine last year in July in MM...Luckily the staff we had told us what we were in for at the very beginning and all of us usedthe course material as a bible and read it not less then 8 times... funny bit is each time weread it, the book seemed to have a different flavour as in it made more sense... I guesssince the books are just translations of the German manuals the punctuations arent done upproperly thus you really get lost in the sentences that last for about 2 or 3 lines... But really ifanyone wants to crack the Cert its important to give your BEST for that 4 weeks of class andMAKE SURE your reading the manuals and finishing them up cover to cover a minimum of 5times and an extra 3 just for revision.

Hi Sameer,

You are right. There are many books for SAP Certification in the market. But, none of thebooks are near to SAP Curriculum books when it comes to quality. SAP has put lot of effortin formalizing these books. Most of the questions are in and around the syllabus of thesebooks. I do accept in some cases the grammar may not be that correct, but, I do not muchbother about the grammar.Probably, if you see the certification exam, some of the questionsare also translated from German, so people will have to read two three times to understandwhat is the real meaning in English. People must read religiously the curriculum books inorder to pass the examination. There is no other way. If somebody is master in the subject, then it would be OK to appear the exam without reading. But, people who are particularlyfreshers should read the books number of times religiously.

Ravi

21-Jun-2012 10:33 PM Susan Martin Ravi Sankar Venna in response to

Hi Ravi,

just a slight correction from my side there. You may well be right that in the past some of theexam questions were translated from German into English but we have significantly changedmany of the exam creation processes over the last 4 years. One of those changes was thatthe source language of all exam questions have been English for several years now. Eventhough many of our best subject matter experts are German they formulate the questionsin English and work together with qualified English native speaker item developers tocreate the final question. All questions then also go through a thorough language edit toweed out any ambiguity and check terms etc. Apart from a quality improvement in theEnglish language questions, we have found that this also has a highly positive impact onthe other language translations of the questions. Translators can only produce high qualitytranslations if the source question is clearly and correctly formulated.

Hey Susan,

Having taken the exam last year I didn't face any issues with the grammar although felt thatthe exam is more on trying to trick the examinee into giving the wrong answer for instancethe "may NOT". What I mean to say is that you need to read the question at least 2 to 3times before you answer cause the question might just be "Which of the following are not

Organisational Levels etc etc". Many of us browse and just miss the nots ... and there isno partial marking.. Ravi i believe that even the more experienced SAP gurus would needto go through the books atleast once. This is only because well I worked for 1 year withcompany that had SAP experts working on MM for over 5 years and noticed that most ofthem know the system inside out in terms of flow but not in terms of definition. As is theyknow what a Purchase Info Record does but most of them have termed it to be a "contract"which it definitely isn't. I feel the books are helpful to just brush up on the smaller details....

Anyways all the BEST to whoever is about to take the exam and start a wonderful fruitfulcareer in SAP...

Hi Sue,

Thank you very much for the update. My last certification exam was 3 1/2 years back. Itis really great news that SAP constantly trying to bring quality to the certification materialsand certification questions. Most of the questions are like in passive voice (indirect wayof asking) rather than active voice (direct way). When four such statements are comingin such a passive voice, the participants will go into a thought process. But, that the clearexpectation from the participant. The participants must take care of the worlds like "must, always, should not be, must not be, may be, all and can". If they do not give importance tothese words, then there is every chance of selecting the wrong answers. In my opinion, thistype of words are very much important.

Thank you once again for your update.

You are right. There are many people who knows lot many things about the system. But, failto understand or identify the right answer. As I mentioned, the questions are tricky and thesentences framed will take the participant to more thought process. Most of the questionsare in passive voice (negative statements), the participant should understand the realmeaning of the statement, rather than blindly rushing to select the answer.

I believe you have gone through the following syllabus.

https://training.sap.com/gb/en/course/c_bosup_90-sap-certified-support-associate-incident-management-with-sap-businessobjects-classroom-090-g-en#course-details

In total 4 weeks is a good time of preparation, but it also depends on how many times thatyou have gone through SAP suggested curricula materials thoroughly word by word. As thishas helped many of the consultants to pass their certifications.

Meanwhile, I hope that my following 11th hours tips would help you:

1. Please go through the above curriculum and give more concentration on chapters with +++ and ++ chapters, as you may get considerable number of questions from these chapters.

2. Please try to go through the curriculum materials as many number of times as possible.Every time you will see a new flavour when you are reading the material.

3. I believe now the valuation has changed that means you need to correct all the subquestions in a main question in order to get full marks. The partial credit has been removedby SAP. Therefore, you need to ensure that you are rightly approaching correct answers. Ibelieve you also will have a hint how many correct answers are there in a questions.

4. Please follow elimination technique - Out of four questions, you would definitely identifythe wrong answers first. Usually, two are blunt wrong answers, so you can easily identifythem, then you will end up with two answers which are in "may correct state", if you resolvetwo then you will find it easy.

5. Do not much worry about the timing, you will have ample time, if you are not sure aboutthe question, please put as "Marked Item" again after some time you can still revisit thosequestions and answer them.

If you follow these things, you should come up with flying colours. There is no need to worryabout pass or fail, they are part of the game. The important thing is that you are there to giveyour best.

Three times, I have appeared at Feltham Center in London, appears to be nice. Fortunately, they have allowed me to reschedule my exam due to genuine reason.Other than this, I am happy with the center. I would like to bring to your kind attention thatthe SAP Certificates that I have received in India and Malaysia Centers are superior paperquality when compared to the exams that I have passed from London Center. I am not sureif something has been changed in between 2006 to 2008.

I never attended at Pearson VUE center. Personally, I am still sceptical to attend the withthem. I may be wrong, but after reading number of stores of certificates not received etc.when attended from them, still makes me uncomfortable in registering with them. You maykindly throw some light on this issue.

8-Jul-2012 6:16 PM Ravi Sankar Venna Vijaya Balaa in response to

Hi Vijaya,

Thanks for your comments. For me it looks you have a decent experience and qualificationto start with SAP. With 9 years of domain experience and MBA finance would be reasonableto start with SAP FICO training. When it comes to SAP you will be considered as a fresherand the market is competitive. The market is very competitive at the moment and find itdifficult to break into SAP arena, unless you have some sort of formal training. However, there are still some employers who are considering the prospective employees with goodfinancial background. You will be really lucky enough to find such employer to give you achance and breakthrough. My experience is first time getting break into SAP is a challengingthing, however, once you get a breakthrough, you can develop your skills depending on yourhard work and learning new concepts in SAP Financials. With out SAP knowledge, breakinginto the SAP market, may be difficult. But, you need to take this as an opportunity to learn.I am not sure how you will convince the interviewer without SAP knowledge. Therefore, youmust make a plan for at least one year to prove yourself in SAP market.

Please do not take my comments as negative, I am only trying to explain the marketconditions. It all depends on your commitment and passion you are going to show on SAP.

Please let me know if you have any specific questions.

Hi Vincent,

I believe you have undergone full fledged e-learning course I believe. Just for passingSAP Certification Accounting is not mandatory. But, if you have some sort of accountingbackground, definitely, it would help you to grasp the basics at a faster rate. I believe youmight have given access to soft copies of the study materials. At this moment of yourprimary goal is to pass the examination. If you read SAP Certification Curriculum books fornot less than 5 times religiously, you should be able to pass easily. You may have to readline by line. Every time you may see a different flavour. In addition, if you find some time, you may please go through some basic accounting books. But, if you do not find any time, then this is not recommended.

I have seen many of my friends who are very good BW consultants, but struggle tounderstand the functionality. When they are discussing the business meeting, some of thewords they cannot understand. Probably, if you have that finance / functional knowledgefrom ECC, definitely, it will give you an edge over others. Without functional knowledge, ifI do just right click and create etc. in BW, it does give any meaningful answer. But, in my

Page 62: How to Crack a Sap Certification

opinion, a BW consultant with functional knowledge would be definitely more valuable in themarket.

Hope I have answered your questions.

Yeah, I have the hardcopy of all 3 books, TFIN50 pt1, 2 and TFIN52. I guess before thinkingabout how can SAP FI benefit me, I should just concentrate on the exam first and see how itgoes.

I will try to read the notes as much as I can.

Thanks for the advice.

Check out this real world story which is sad and I believe cases like this are extremelycommon and ultimately lead some people down a path of fraud or embellishing their resume.

DOs & DON’Ts for SAP Career (Certification) on the basis of my on going journey from anAccountant to SAP FI Consultant.

On a side note it is crazy to think there are jobs out there where people have to PAY to actas a "consultant" so they can get go-live experience on their resume.

Hi Ravi,

Thanks for your kind words. To some extent that type of anxiety is good. Because, youcannot waste a single minute. Every minute, your mind is filled with ambition. For the timebeing, please not think much about the job. Your prime important task is to complete yourcertification. Therefore, from now to your certification, the days, sorry the minutes are veryimportant for you. Please try to utilize them as much as you can. Please go through thecurriculum materials as many number of as you can very religiously, line by line and word byword. Because most of the examination questions will roam around these curriculum books. Please understand the concepts and do NOT tend to leave any chapters, every chapter isimportant on its own way. Concentrate much on +++ chapters. Clearing fundamentals arekey for the examination.

All the best.

Dear Ravi,

Presently, I am working as SAP BASIS consultant, Willing to make carrier in SAP GRCAccess Control.

My plan is , first i go for some local training in GRC access control, then SAP training &certification.

Please let me know, whether my decision to go in SAP GRC is right... & suggest any traininginstitute for GRC in Mumbai

I cannot, in fact should not suggest any other institute other than SAP / SAP AuthorisedTraining Partners. If you are going for a local institute, you need to check their legality, theirquality and kind of system access they are providing.

Please note that you have number of restriction in India to appear the certification. Iam afraid SAP will let you in for the certification, unless you have sufficient years ofimplementation experience, your employer status, number of years you are with your currentemployer etc. are being satisfied.

There is no point going to first local training and then SAP Training. It is double investment, could be waste of money. GRC is a specific and all the customers are not willing to gofor it, however, SAP is pushing hard into the market. If possible, try to get the trainingsponsored by your employer. Please also check what kind of career advancement you aregoing to get with SAP. Will you be promoted to a bigger level in your organisation with yourGRC Certification? Check what kind of additional benefits you are going to get with yourinvestment.

However, learning a new technology will always help in the long run, if not today. Because, you will be head of the market in reaching the benefits.

Ravi

Hi Santosh,

Thanks for your comments.

Everybody whoever is writing the exam for the first time will have the same kind of anxiety toknow how the exam looks like. There is no need to think anything on those lines, this is justanother examination in your life, nothing more than that.

Class Room Training:

Pros: Effective, Quick Grasp, Chance to engage with number of people

Cons: Costly, cannot be repeated, not sure of quality (depends on trainer)

eLearning:

Pros: Go on your speed, chance to revise, time to revisit

Cons: Becomes lazy, looses interest over a period, cannot engage with people

Direct Exam:

Pros: Easy to pay the amount, prepare on your own, give when you are ready.

Cons: Stringent SAP India policies, your eligibility etc.

Hi Balaganesh,

If you are going to exam shortly, my only advice is go through the curriculum booksreligiously as many number of time as you can. Most of the questions would be surroundingaround these books only. I would recommend at least 5 times revision of these books wouldreally helpful. If you get any practice questions, please practice. That would also boost yourconfidence. Please note that now you need to correct all sub questions to get full marks. Therefore, please use elimination technique when attempting the questions (first identify thewrong answers) then you will end up with two probably correct answers. Solving them wouldbe trick of the exam.

Hi Beeraiah,

SAP FI Certification is less complex certification, unless you are unfamiliar with theconcepts.

You can find the syllabus at the following link for TFIN series.

https://training.sap.com/gb/en/certification/

For FI there are two certifications, C_TFIN52_64 and C_TFIN52_65.

It difficult to comments unless knowing your interest and experience in FI area.

You can also look into BOBJ/BI/HANA etc. type of areas.

As Mr. Ravi Sankar has written in one of his blogs you have to read the training material"RELIGIOUSLY" mininum 5 time. I didnt realise the meaning of the statement until an unlessI have appeared for certification ;-)

Devoting time depends on your experience, knowledge level. But still you will have to gothrough the training material throughly maximum number of times.

As much time you can spend that will help you, quantifying the effort will be difficult.

Oh Dear,

I am sad to know you need to work double hard. However, I must appreciate yourdetermination. Keep up the same tempo and no task would be difficult.

Probably, you have taken the right decision, by keeping the both options open (certificationand job). The only this is you need to work much hard as you would need to adjust yourtimings and sleep.

Hardly, you could spend anything much after 5.30. By the time it is evening 6.00 p.m. yourmind would be stressful with so many new topics, chapters and topics. You would needsome rest to come back to tomorrow class. However, the best time you can utilise is weekends. You would get free time and you should be able to spend most of the time. Please tryto make a notes from the Day 1 when the tutor is explaining key important topics. Go with3 - 4 different markers. Colour it anything important on the book. Please also note down onthe material itself, if anything is important thing explained. It would be easy for you whenyou review the material at a later date. Do not much worry if you are not able to completethe hands-on exercises. Most of the participants tend in incomplete the hands on sessions,

including me

You must read the books given at least 5 times very religiously, sentence by sentence, sorry, word by word. Hi Rahul,

You will have single answered questions and multiple answered questions. For singleanswer, you can select only one answer. For multiple you need to select the correct answer. In each question, it will tell how many correct questions are there.

There are no negative marking. Hence, you can take risk to answer all questions.

Yes, you are correct, if you make incorrect a single stem question, then the whole questionwill NOT be given marks. Hence, you must ensure, you have answered correctly all the stemquestions in a main question.

All the best.

Dear Ravi Namaste !

As i have read your blog on SAP certification and examination..........firstof all let me introduce my self i'm Mayur from India. Recently i have completed B.E ininformation technology and joined MBA program in IT. form the beginning of my B.E ihave heard lot of about SAP and i have deep interest in SAP Technologies. Well when istarted how to do SAP certification and education i have big deadlock. I have confidencethat if i have material than without anyone's guidance i can understand and work with anySAP module. but here matter of MONEY. As i have got information about fee structured ofSAP certification program i got shocked. for the large amount i should said not large butmammoth amount of fee for it. So please give me best advice for what i can do. one thing isclear that i have not enough money for this training and education for SAP. Please give meyour best advice what i can do.

Best Regards

Mayur.

Hi Mayur,

Unfortunately, in India, in order to certify either you should have 2 plus years ofimplementation experience or take training from SAP / Authorised Education Partners. Therules are little stringent. Please note that even Certification cannot give you any guarantee

of job. Many people with certification are still struggling for jobs. If you are really serious youcan with SAP Malaysia or Singapore, where they allow you to write the Certification.

All the best.

Hi Mayur,

Your querry is quite analogous to dilema faced by me last year. Like you Icompleted BE Mechanical MBA in Production Materials mgt. I was very keen abt SAP, but Ididn't have any experience then. I worked in a small manufacturing unit at nasik for 1 year &got admitted to SAP-MM module. Cleared certification with 84%, standing 1st in the institute& I was damn fortunate to get into an immediate job as well. I would like to advice you tocomplete ur MBA then go for a job, no matter what the profile is, then go for SAP. SAPrequires a huge investment dude, be prepared financially & mentally for the same. I have

gone through lot of pressure, trust me. Play it safe

Ravi

1. Is it a correct time for me to opt for a certification.2. Can I only opt for SAP HCM or can I opt for another modules also.3. And is SAP HCM as a module in demand(are companies looking for these proffesionals)4. Or as i have life sciences can you suggest me any other ERP which I can opt.

Thanks,

Suman.

28-Dec-2012 10:45 PM Ravi Sankar Venna Suman Garipathi in response to

Hi Suman,

Considering your experience, you can go into SAP HCM. Your degree really does notmatter, however, your experience really matters.

1. You cannot write certification in India, unless you have either 2 plus years of SAPimplementation experience or training from SAP / SAP Education Partner.

2. Since you worked 2 plus years in HR Department, SAP HR would be ideal certification foryou.

3. There is always demand for right consultants. There are number of new areas are addedin SAP HCM (HR). Certification is just beginning and you may have to learn number of newareas to keep yourself up to date.

4. It do not make any sense to go with other modules as you have experience inRecruitment.

Best Regards,

Ravi

I went through your post and found it quite informative.

I have a query. I am working in SAP ABAP for the last 6years. I would now like to do acertification. But I do not want to go for the training. In this case, where from can I get theSAP learning materials?

The best thing would be to check with your friends / colleagues if they have attend sameSAP certification, you can borrow the materials.

Please go through the following link.

http://www.sap.com/uk/services/education/certification/index.epx

You have three levels of certification. However, master level is not yet come.

I would suggest you go for Associate Examination. Passing of the certification is moreimportant than going for higher levels, as lot of money is involved in the process. I would

always like to play safe game.

Please contact SAP Education team they would advise you for the certification. Thereshould not be much problem, as anyway, you have 6 years of experience.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Now am thinking of doing SAP HR. I want to get into hris, erp part, because i don't want toget into normal generalist role of HR or administration.

I thought of doing it from JKTSAP academy , kolkata, as i saw it is registered sap trainer insap website only for kolkata region .

I did contacted Siemens, but they are not imparting training now in kolkata.

I have average knowledge in excel , for sap do we need to have good command on codes, languages etc? or a simple guy like me can adapt to it, if he practice..

I personally went to the authorized training center, spoke to faculty and some consultants. Idiscussed my profile with them, I showed them my resume, they said i am eligible for SAPHR. I asked them what i can expect after the completion? they said, after completion youwill surely get 30k+ salary..they were quite optimistic with my profile of getting a god job with25k...In practical scenarios is it possible?, rather being lame in this field i would like to ask ,what can i expect in terms of remuneration after being certified..HCM fresher, with 2 yrsdomain knowledge.

Now wot i have come to know is for sap fresher getting job in sap is tough, so ampredetermined that after completing the course i will have to work for 2-3 years with salaryvery low.but in few portals and blogs i saw people claiming that sap freshers get as low as12-15k...Is this what i have heard is true?

my question to you sir , will it help me to grow myself in this HR domain. I am a veryaverage student[55-56% profile], with good knowledge in IR and Labour Laws.I want adviseand suggestions ,so that i can take an informed decision. please everyone, help me...

SAP Certification is not a job guaranteed program. There is nobody can guarantee you thejob. The institute can probably help you for some placement. At the end of the day, it is onyour hands to prove in the interview. For the first job, I would not much prefer about thesalary. Excel is not much required for SAP, if you have basic windows knowledge that couldbe sufficient. However, as a functional consultant, you are strongly recommended to havegood excel skills. Going for certification is calculated risk you might be taking. Please donot take a decision of resigning from your present job and going for certification. Probably, take leave for a month and then go for certification. In parallel, you try for outside SAP jobopportunities. There are number of SAP consultants with average IQ. Therefore, there is noneed to get panic, however, please try to give honest try for your career growth.

quality is absolute rubbish. Therefore, please do not waste your money.

Hi Byju,

CO is definitely a difficult examination when compared to FI. There is no necessity that youneed to pass both the certifications. However, it is only your interested. At the same time, there is no guarantee of job even if you pass both certifications.

Regarding your questions of whether you can learn CO on your own. In CO, you wouldsee not much of configuration, except Product Costing and COPA. It is more of theoreticalknowledge. Self learning is good, but at the same time, you will have a limitation for that. Itis always advised to learn from the experts / trainers. At the same time, please do not spendtoo much of amount. On job training is the best training or understanding you would get.

Dear Vipin,

You need to read, read and read the material. There is no other go.

The only tip I can give you is to use the "Elimination Technique" in the examination.

For single answered questions - Out of the 4 sub questions given, you would be easily ableto identify the two wrong answers. You would end up with two answers, out of which one isdefinite answer. Identifying this answer would be the key for your success.

For multiple answers: Eliminate the wrong answers, read the likely correct answers morethan once. You cannot take chance / lottery system in selecting the answers, as even asingle mistake will lead you to loosing the whole available marks of that question.

Understanding the concepts are much important in passing the examination.

All the best.

Hello Vipin,

It does not make any difference, whether you registered for elearning or class room trainingwith SAP. (Not sure if you are doing online training with outside institutes)

SAP would supply the same materials whatever type of course it is. If it is elearning, youwould have your own time to go through the slides and prepare yourself. Sometimes, it maybe not useful, as people get lethargic.

Class room timing is more effective and it would give your quick grasp of the fundamentals,as you have nice environments, tutor and people around you with different experiences.

However, the problem is the class cannot be repeated if you take a nap

Hi Vipin

Sorry for the delay. I am from Kerala and now settled in Canada. I think Ravi has given yougood tactics of Passing SAP Fi Certification. It is not so difficult to pass the test.

You have to read following books atleast 5 times religiously.

1. TFIN50 -1

2. TFIN50-2

3. Asset Accounting

4. New General Ledger Accounting

5. Solution Manager

6. Netweaver

7. Sap Basis-Navigation

The first two reading will be difficult and time consuming. But after that you can finishreading each book within 1 or 2 days. For me all the concepts became very clear after 4th

reading

Page 105: How to Crack a Sap Certification

SAP Certification: How to Approach and Pass a SAP Certification

Generated by Jive on 2013-07-23+02:00105

About the test

--------------------

I expected scenario based questions. But to my surprise 95% questions were direct. Therewill be total 80 questions and you have to finish within 3 hours. Questions will be asked fromeach topics. You can expect between 7 to 12 questions from each topics (account payable, receviable, new gl accounting, asset accounting, netweaver etc...). So you cannot skip anychapters from the above said books.

I could finish the test within 1.5 hours including a double check. So don't worry about the

time. YOu will get plenty of time .

My tactics of passing the exam

-----------------------------------------------

1. Read all the books atleast 3 times

2. Then practise questions and answers. I got a few questions from the following website forthe test.

Hi Ikhtiyar,

Good to know you.

The following are my thoughts for your questions:

1) It all depends on at what level you are currently in. If you have basic understanding aboutSAP FICO then you can go through the recommended materials like TERP50, TERP52,TERP010 and SM001 materials. If you are very new to SAP FI, then you are recommendedto attend a formal training.

2) The best books are SAP recommended books as mentioned above. These books arecopyrighted materials and not available for free distribution. However, unfortunately, they are

available freely on web. Please do not ask me the links about them

Kind Regards,

PS: Please do not spend exorbitant amounts on SAP FI training. FI is the most easiest examout of the whole lot of exams.

Hi Girish,

I am not sure about Dubai. However, countries like UK, USA, there is no requirement of formal training.

You may need to contact Dubai SAP Education at the following link:

http://www.sap.com/mena/services/education/index.epx

They should be able to advise you the fee structure as well.

Earlier, SAP Education Partner in Middle East is Naizak, used to allow participants withouttraining. Not sure if they have changed the rules. You may please contact them for furtherdetails.

Hi Padmaja,

From my experience in the MENA region I found that Certification alone will not help.Experience in the business domain + Certification will stand ahead.

Now many companies here are insisting consultants to be certified. In which area you haveyour expertise? based on that concentrate for the certification and move ahead. All the best.

SAP will send your hard copy of certificate to your address registered on the exam daywithin 4 to 8 weeks time depending on your location.

No other document will be sent to you. Earlier they used to give SAP Certification Card. However, I believe this has been discontinued.

Hello Naveen,

Good that you are planning for SAP certification.I think Ravi is the best known person toanswer your queries, still I want to share the same with you.

First of all you need to get enrolled at SAP institute which have authorized training programfor SAP Germany. But this option is really an expensive one and they charge huge fees.

2nd option is to get an employment in IT company who are into SAP.At times some of theorganizations give training on SAP to their prospective employees. One of my friend gotextensive training in SAP SD and is now doing very well.

There might be some other options where you need to explore.

Let Ravi also put his words as he is the right person to guide all of us.

My thoughts echo with you.

If we are looking for life time career, it is worth to invest and take risk.

Unauthorised insitutes many times cannot give no structured and authoritative education.

I would echo your thoughts whether go with structured education or learn from youremployer / on-job training.

Hi Rahul,

There is no time limit as such. You can give any point of time, provided if you have the slotsto appear the exam.

However, I would personally suggest, you should take one month to give your next exam, sothat can address any failures you made in the previous exam. One month would be a goodtime to review the materials again.

Hi Ravi,

Been awhile, hope you are doing fine

You probably don't remember me, but something I wanna ask your opinion.

I am SAP BI 7 Certified Associate, and doing BW/BO for 3-4 years now. I been given achance last year to do SAP FI (Online Course), which including SAP FI Certified AssociateC_TFIN52_64 exam, all paid by Gov. After attending the Online Course, I been sent toSingapore for Project, which made me focus less on the Up coming SAP FI exam, and

because it's a Gov program, SAP can't allow me to reschedule the exam. I got 53%

I plan to retake SAP FI exam, which I need to pay for it myself this time, but at the sametime, I am also considering taking HANA v1.0 exam.

Page 129: How to Crack a Sap Certification

SAP Certification: How to Approach and Pass a SAP Certification

Generated by Jive on 2013-07-23+02:00129

My dillema is:-

Should I retake SAP FI, or should I study for HANA instead?

By taking SAP FI, can I join SAP Functional FI related job in the future?

or HANA is a better bet since HANA is the new thing, and BW is also associate with HANA.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

19-Jun-2013 2:03 PM Ravi Sankar Venna Vincent Ong in response to

Hi Vincent,

If I am in your position, I would always go for HANA. There are millions of FI consultants

across the globe.

You know the basic fundamentals of SAP FI, I know you have not passed the exam, that isdifferent matter. But, that does not mean that you do not know SAP FI.

Since, you are already certified in SAP BI, HANA would be a best bet for you. SAP FI marketis very competitive, I doubt, if your certification in SAP FI would alone fetch you job.

I would always suggest you to go with HANA.
