1Introduction

 This document describes how to commission Flexi Multiradio BTS GSM/EDGE. The Commissionfrom SCF option is described in this document. See Flexi Multiradio BTS GSM/EDGE customerdocumentation for additional information, such as manual commissioning and troubleshootinginstructions.

This document assumes that the needed configuration has been created in the BSC, and that theneeded transmission path has been configured and connected up to the last hop to the BTS.

The following are briefly described in this Quick Guide:

•  2G Flexi BTS Site Manager connection setup•  Flexi Multiradio BTS commissioning

The prerequisites before commissioning are as follows:•  The 2G Flexi BTS Site Manager is installed on the PC•  The BTS SW to be used is available on the PC for a local SW upgrade•  The required SCF file is available on the PC for SCF file commissioning

2 2G Flexi BTS Site Managerconnection setup 

1. Change IP address settings in Windows XP.

Select Start Settings Network Connections.

Select Local Area Connection.

Click Properties in the Local Area Connection Status dialog box. Select Internet Protocol(TCP/IP), and click Properties in the Local Area Connection Properties dialog box. Select Use thefollowing IP address and define the IP addresses. Click OK.

Note

If you have a personal firewall installed on your PC, you need administrator rights to setthe IP address of the BTS in the friend list of your firewall.

2. Perform a visual check to the BTS:

•  the grounding•  power cabling

•  LED status during power up•  TX/RX antenna connector torque check (7/16 connector 25Nm)

3. Connect the Ethernet cable from the PC to the Flexi Multiradio BTS.

4. Check and connect E1/T1 or Flexbus cables to transmission card.

5. Start 2G Flexi BTS Site Manager by clicking the icon on your desktop. The Task Selectionview opens.

6. If you want to establish a local connection, select the Local Connection option. Enter theBTS IP address and Password, and click Connect to establish the connection. Entering thepassword in not mandatory.

7. If you want to establish a remote connection, select the Remote Connection option. Enter thevalues for the fields, and click Connect to establish the connection. All the fields except BTSPassword are mandatory.

The user can recommission a site using a remote connection.

8. In order to prevent errors in commissioning and reduce the time required to commission andintegrate the BTS into the network, it is recommended to download the BTS software locallyusing the 2G Flexi BTS Site Manager. Select BTS SW SW Update.

Download the SW release that has been attached to the BCF at the BSC. After the softwaredownload is complete, the BTS site is automatically reset.

9. If you need to commission FIFA and microwave radios, choose the Transmission LaunchFlexiHub Manager menu item. The Nokia FlexiHub Manager main window opens.

3 Flexi Multiradio BTS GSM/ EDGEcommissioning 

 All the parameters in the SCF file need to be defined according to the radio network plan. Checkthat correct SCF file is used during commissioning.

Note

In case the transmission plug-in unit (PIU) module type changes, perform UndoCommissioning with removal of bypass traffic after the new PIU is inserted. After that,commission the Flexi Multiradio BTS.

1. Select the Commissioning  Wizard menu item or click the Commissioning button on theView Bar. The Goal selection page opens.

2. Select the Commission from SCF option.

3. Browse for the SCF file by clicking the Browse button. All the commissioning parameters areloaded from the SCF. You cannot make any changes to the parameters before sending it tothe BTS.

4. Click Next to continue. The Site Commissioning File page opens.

5. Click Send SCF. After the BTS has been successfully commissioned click Finish.

6. To see the commissioning report, click Show Report.
