How to check device connectivity from the ESRS gateway This is done from the Configuration Tool (START-> All Programs -> ESRS -> Configuration Tool) Click on the “Managed Devices” Tab. Connectivity status is shown highlighted below… The blue symbol indicates “connected”, the red one indicates “not-connected”. HOWEVER for a fuller picture, you should be aware of how the gateway tests device connectivity. It sends a SYN on a particular port and expects a SYN-ACK reply. This test is performed continually to all devices, on a regular basis, currently every hour. It requires there to be several missed replies, before the gateway will mark a device as “not-connected”. So be aware that the status shown above will not be up-to-date. Also refreshing the screen will not cause the connectivity to be re-tested.

How to check device connectivity from the ESRS gateway

This is done from the Configuration Tool (START-> All Programs -> ESRS -> Configuration Tool)

Click on the “Managed Devices” Tab. Connectivity status is shown highlighted below…

The blue symbol indicates “connected”, the red one indicates “not-connected”.

HOWEVER – for a fuller picture, you should be aware of how the gateway tests device connectivity.

It sends a SYN on a particular port and expects a SYN-ACK reply. This test is performed continually to all devices,

on a regular basis, currently every hour. It requires there to be several missed replies, before the gateway will mark a

device as “not-connected”. So be aware that the status shown above will not be up-to-date. Also refreshing the

screen will not cause the connectivity to be re-tested.

If you need to do a “real-time” connectivity check, you should do the following:-

Open a CMD window.

Enter “telnet IP_ADDR PORT_NO” where IP_ADDR is the IP Address of the device. PORT_NO depends on the

device type as shown in the following table. Where more than one port is shown, try several. The port/application

used may depend on the revision of software on the device.

If an error message is received, it was not possible to connect to the device. If the windows goes blank without any

message being displayed, that indicates good connectivity.
