There are a number of critical issues Christians are facing today regarding public engagement. There are limited articulate Christian voices in the public sphere, a greater need for creative and strategic planning, growing challenges for the Biblical worldview when engaging institutions, negative media representations, and global pressures on Christian values.

The Lachlan Macquarie Institute seeks to address these issues by developing strategic redemptive leaders. Through this we aim to see a shift over the next 20-30 years in politics, news and entertainment media, law, academia, and the broader culture towards an acknowledgement of Biblical truths and principles.

“The aim of LMI is to develop Christian cultural and political leaders who are equipped and motivated to make redemptive societal change”

“Let it not be said I was silent when they needed me”

- William Wilberforce, anti-slavery politician and patron to Lachlan Macquarie

Our vision is to see effective, grounded, and faithful leadership impacting our society for Christ. In order to achieve this vision the LMI program is centred around these core objectives:

The LMI program is designed to develop the knowledge, skills, networks, faith, and character of Christians considering careers in public life. This includes areas such as politics, media, law, academia, social research, public service, and cultural engagement. The intensive program runs for 14 weeks and includes:

• Community based learning in a rural environment near Canberra

• Renowned academics tutoring in theology, law, history and politics

• Skill workshops in speaking, writing, strategy, policy, media, and leadership

• Formal dinners with prominent Christian public leaders

• Work experience options in think tanks, NGO’s, politics, social services and media.

• Focussed coaching and mentoring in potential career options

• Federal Parliament placements in political offices

• Wide opportunities for networking and relationship building

• Access to a broader LMI alumni network partnering across institutions

• Ongoing pastoral care and support from experienced leaders
