A Couple Good Answers: (you first)

• There will probably be a longer school day next year. There is a law that mandates it, and it is one of Rahm Emanuel’s campaign promises. Since Emanuel is the most powerful politician in the state, the longer day will likely pass, regardless of whether or not it makes sense for student’s education.

An Alternative?

• No, the longer school day may not pass. It is obvious that students will not have a better education just because they are in school longer, particularly if the schools are given no additional resources to provide this education. This is obvious to parents, students and teachers, groups of which have formed to fight the longer day. Since the question is obvious and their cause is just, they may win.
