College housing should feel like home.

The transition from high school to college is easier when students have a safe, supportive place to call home. For the first two years at LVC, your son or daughter will live in a traditional residence hall with fellow underclassmen. This provides opportunities to meet a lot of people and forge the kinds of lasting friendships that make college life so rewarding. Other on-campus housing options are available after the first two years.

This past fall, 83 percent of LVC first-year students returned for their sophomore year, a retention rate far above the national average.

More than 90 percent of students live with the same roommate their entire first year.

To help our students succeed both socially and academically, LVC carefully selects 48 resident assistants who live in the residence halls and serve as mentors, role models, and safety nets. A big part of the RA’s job is to make sure that every student is fitting in, knows about available resources, and has a reliable place to turn for help or advice.

All first-year roommates are paired by Residential Life staff and are assigned based on shared academic experiences, mutual roommate requests, and documented medical needs. In their first

year, roommates will share courses, in-hall tutoring, and programs designed to assist in their daily transitions. Students will also have access to support needed to success-fully transition into LVC academically, emotionally, and socially.

Most upperclassmen live in more independent environments, including small houses, rooms clustered as suites, or apartment-style housing—arrange-ments that help prepare your son or daughter for independent living after college.

The next best thing to home cooking.

We take pride in our food service, recognizing the importance of good nutrition in a healthy, productive life.

A variety of meal plans accommodates both residential students and commuters and offers flexibility through Flex Dollars, which can be used like cash at any of our campus dining locations.

LVC menus reflect a variety of tastes and diets and include options sensitive to dietary restrictions. A sample of serving stations in the primary dining hall includes:

• Signature Entrées: classic favorites, gourmet selections, specialty sandwiches

• Brick Oven Pizza and Pasta: brick oven pizza, hand-prepared strombolis and calzones, and fresh pasta dishes

• Bravo!: made-to-order dishes including stir fry, chopped salads, and omelets

• Salad Bar: mixed greens, fresh veggies, assorted dressings, and homemade soups

• LVC Deli: fresh, made-to-order sandwiches, paninis, wraps

• Cuisine: vegetarian and gluten-free options

• Dutchmen Grill: burgers and other items from the char-broiler

• Baked Impressions: in-house bakery with cakes, pies, brownies, cookies, and cereal bars

LVC dining services helps diners make healthy food choices through the Live Well program, which offers menu items lower in calories, sodium, and saturated fat.

Intermetzo Coffee Bar, centrally located in one of LVC’s busiest academic buildings, serves freshly brewed coffees, espresso drinks, bottled beverages, smoothies, snacks, and bakery items, as well as grab-and- go gourmet salads and sandwiches to students on the move.

The Dutchman Den convenience store is your one-stop shop for build-your-own heroes, grab-and-go options, and other items, such as school supplies, frozen dinners, and toiletries.

Our students say LVC feels a lot like home.

Our campus community is close-knit and welcoming. Students know one another, support one another, and treat one another with the trust and respect that comes from being part of a safe community.

Our parents like the fact that campus is safe and nurturing.

Our campus is comfortable and convenient. Students live a short walk from friends, classes, the library, dining halls, and fitness facilities. Everything they need is close at hand. There are enough activities and events to keep them busy, but there is also enough peace and quiet to allow them to focus on the things that are most important in college—studying and doing well.

A favorite place on campus is the Peace Garden, which draws students in with its serene ponds, a footbridge, and plenty of space to sit and study (or take a break from studying). Our students find the beauty of the garden— and campus in general—provides a welcome backdrop to their active lives.

A wider world just down the road.

Our students enjoy the advantages of two worlds: idyllic, small-campus life plus the recreational, educational, cultural, and professional opportunities associated with larger towns and cities.

A few minutes’ walk from campus, Annville (population 5,000) is a college-friendly community. Many LVC students volunteer as tutors or mentors to Annville students. Others have internships with local businesses and industries.

Annville is a recreational destination for students wanting to spend time with friends. Popular destinations include Soprano’s Ristorante & Pizzeria, Batdorf Restaurant, and the historic Allen Theatre and MJ’s Coffee House, where LVC sponsors many free events for students.

Just down the road, students can shop (there’s a mall and Walmart) or dine in nearby Palmyra or travel a few more miles to Hershey, home of the famous chocolate factory and a place where many students find internships. Harrisburg and Lancaster are both about a half-hour drive by car. Baltimore and Philadelphia are both reachable by car in about two hours.

In addition to student- run initiatives, LVC sponsors a variety of fun activities for students—including comedians, coffee houses, concerts, films, lectures, and weekly excursions to nearby attractions—most of which are free to students or very inexpensive.

Being active and healthy is part of living a positive, successful life, and LVC students take advantage of many opportunities to combine wellness and fun.

Varsity Sports Competing in the Commonwealth Conference at the NCAA Division III level, LVC athletes can play college sports while pursuing career and intellectual goals and enjoying other interests. As an LVC varsity athlete, your child can major in whatever he or she chooses, double-major, study abroad, and pursue intern-ships—experiences that will enrich and inform his or her life well beyond college.

LVC offers a series of leadership workshops for athletes that deal with such topics as coaching fundamentals, practice schedule development, and dealing with fan behavior.

More than 30 percent of the student body participates on one (or more) of LVC’s NCAA Division III athletic teams, and the College is well equipped to help athletes maintain the balance between athletic competition and academic performance. LVC runs a variety of orientation, assessment, and academic support programs specifically designed to help student-athletes succeed, including the BodyARMOR program.

Although LVC has no physical education requirement, most students are involved in some sort of physical fitness or wellness activity, whether it’s a spot on the Ultimate Frisbee team, a Les Mills body-pump class, a nutrition workshop, or games of pick-up basketball.

With all the things that define them as individuals, our students share a commitment to service and community outreach. Generosity of spirit is a natural product of our friendly culture, and students and faculty find many ways to contribute to the Annville community and to others far away.

The College organizes several annual campus-wide service initiatives. Addi-tionally, more than 75 student groups, athletic teams, Greek organizations, and theme houses initiate community service projects. The Lebanon Valley Educational Partnership connects LVC students with local high school students to talk about college. In the past year alone, LVC ath-letic teams raised tens of thousands of dollars for numerous charities, including the American Cancer Society, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Coach to Cure MD, Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, Special Olympics, and several wounded veteran organizations, among others.

Students earn recognition for their volunteer work by participating in LVC’s service award program. Distinction at the gold, silver, or bronze level appears on their LVC résumé, giving potential employers insight into their character.

Service is a way of life here.

LVC was the first college to have a Relay for Life fund- raiser in South Central Pennsylvania. In 2013, more than 500 students participated in the ninth annual relay, raising $44,000.

Lebanon Valley College is a private, coeducational college founded in 1866 and dedicated to the liberal arts.

58 buildings on more than 340 acres in Annville, Pennsylvania, a town of 5,000 near the Pennsylvania Dutch countryside.

1,648 full-time under- graduates. The ratio of women to men is 54:46.

FRESHMAN CLASS PROFILE

415 students. 81 percent were in the top 30 percent of their high school class, and the average SAT score is 1076.

FACULTY

106 full-time faculty members, 91 percent of whom hold Ph.D.s or terminal degrees in their field; student-faculty ratio of 12:1 and average class size of 20.

AFTER LVC

Ninety-one percent of 2013 graduates who responded to our annual survey were employed or were attending graduate school within six months of graduation. Nearly 15 percent were employed and attending graduate school.

APPLYING

Our application process includes an Early Decisionopportunity and is otherwise rolling. We encourage completed applications by March 1 for fall semester admission and December 1 for spring semester admission.

FINANCIAL AID AND SCHOLARSHIPS

Approximately 97 percent of students receive grant or scholarship aid from LVC. Generous academic scholarships are awarded to students whose high school records demonstrate a commitment to challenge and achievement. Total financial aid awarded in the form of LVC grants and academic scholarships for 2013-2014 was $26,350,483. The average grant and scholarship package totaled $16,418.
