1. How to running Mac OS X Leopard / Snow (10.5 /10.6)

1.1 Convert your eml-files.

Put all your eml files or directories containing emlx-files in one directory. and then specify this folder as the source directory. The folder structure will be maintained.

Ensure that all files are readable. Therefore choose Information from the context menu and check access-rights (see picture). Apply access rights to all enclosed items.

Launch eml-2-emlx. Specify a target directory. Check the 'create .mbox files' checkbox (if you have several subfolders, which you want to convert as mailboxes).

Please uncheck the “Create Mac OS Mail Structure” checkbox, this is only needed running Mac OS X Lion.

1.2 How to "import" .emlx-Mail Files into MacOS Mail**

MacOS Mail (Leopard) has it´s difficulties "importing" .emlx-files via the standard import command. Mostly you get errors saying that the files you want to import are not regular emlx-files. Sometime, even if you exported them with MacOSMail.

Therefore you need to do a simple trick.

Quit Mac OS Mail and return to finder and navigate to your user folder. Then open 'Library/Mail/Mailboxes' and move the newly created .mbox Folders (or the whole directory you specified as the target directory). See picture.

MacOS Mail does not automatically recognize the new files inside the new added mailbox folder.

Therefore you need to create a new message-index file (Envelope Index). You can do that either by rebuilding the whole database index or by selecting a mailbox and only rebuild that index.

1.3 Rebuild the whole database index

To create a new message-index (notice new mails), you have to delete the file 'Envelope Index' which resides in 'Library/Mail/'.

Then run MacOS Mail again. Now MacOS Mail will automatically create a new index (create a new Envelope Index file), and you will see the messages and folders inside MacOS Mail.

1.4 Rebuild only the imported Mailbox index

You can do that by selecting the corresponding mailbox inside MacOS Mail and then choose "Rebuild" from the "Mailbox" menu. This will rebuild the database index only for that mailbox.

2.1 Convert your eml-files.

Put all your eml files or directories containing emlx-files in one directory. and then specify this folder as the source directory. The folder structure will be maintained.

Be sure to check the “Create Mac OS Mail Structure” checkbox. This creates the Structure which is needed to import the mailboxes as “Mac OS Mail” (see next step).

After conversion you will have a new folder which somewhat looks like this:

2.2 How to "import" .emlx-Mail Files into MacOS Mail** running Mac OS X 10.7-10.10

Now, start up Mac OS X Mail. Choose “Import Mailboxes...” from the “File”-Menu. Then choose “Apple Mail” in the following dialoge.

Then choose the folder, which was created by eml-2-emlx.

Now Mail shows up all the Messages, which are included in any enclosed mailbox. If you want to import them all, go ahead, otherwise uncheck those messages, you do not want to import. Click “continue”.

As the result, you will see you imported mailboxes n one parent mailbox, which is called “Import”. You may now move them anywhere you like.

3. How to get mails out of Microsoft Outlook* 2011 Mac

You can drag your E-Mails into a directory on your desktop. They will be exported as .eml-Files. Unfortunately, you cannot drag whole Folders out of Outlook. If you want to export several Folders, you have to create one directory (or subdirectory) on your desktop (or anywhere else) for each folder inside Outlook and drag the E-Mails from that Folder to the corresponding directory.
