VIRAL?

Our music video was written with the hope to go viral. With this thought in mind, we wanted to create a video as extravagant, to go alongside the music. This then we thought would compliment the piece as a whole. We wanted to adopt the idea of our video being viral so we made it as home grown as possible. So therefore our video became very independent as we didn’t follow popular trends of music videos nowadays by artists such as, ‘The Saturdays’ or ‘Take That’

‘HOME GROWN?’

We’ve given our video the typical ‘rough edge’ of a viral video. The dancing scene specifically introduces the home grown effect of a viral video.

Dancing scene

The dancing scene has a clear indication of a home grown viral video, as the actors hold the camera to create the effect of one another P.O.V., from doing so its clear to identify the obvious shadow of the actors themselves due to our lighting. This gives a rough edge to our video, creating the home grown effect.

THE COMBINATION OF MY MAIN TASK AND ANCILLARY TASKS. The home grown effect we delivered I wanted to keep the same connection to my digi pak and also my poster. I linked the extravagance of our video and music with my ancillary task. My poster and CD cover I created, has the same out of the ordinary look to it. Its fun creative and very bold, which relates to our music and our video.

By doing this we are conforming to a trend, which home-grown videos have their imperfections which then adds to the British humour. The constant reminder of the mammary glands (breasts) emphasises the theme and topic of the song. This was inspired from the gay icon on ‘Barberella’

…. CONTINUED.On its own our video could be very successful, however wouldn’t it be better to have other types of promotional mediums to add to the successfulness?

Both my CD cover and poster have my face on them, with the hope of become an iconic image. For example ‘Army of lovers’ This band had two very camp men who then have a well endowed woman at the forefront of their band. The woman has become the iconic image to their band as she has the blunt image capturing fringe and also huge boobs!

I myself am the iconic image to the marketing our band. I am the bands identity.

On my digi pak my face consumes both the inside left and front cover. We as a group felt I had a strong sense of image with my sharp fashionable haircut and the bluntness of my fringe. This then as we can see from bands such as ‘Army of lovers’ and ‘Yazoo’ represents me as the iconic image our audience would want to invest in.

My digi pak cover has the sense of playfulness as my head has been Photoshoped onto the image of fried eggs, which is symbolic for breasts. This image has created continuity in our product and also representated the meaning our band wanted to portray as our identity. This is vital within the publishing campaign.

GAY ICONS

Katy PerryMadonnaKylie Minogue Beth Ditto

All these women are gay icons with their own sexualised image. They are all very strong sexual women who ooze power and independence.

Katy Perry - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAp9BKosZXsKaty has become very iconic through her very dramatic costumes. I can connect this to the scene where I break the norm and shop at ASDA with my dressing gown and slippers on. Although this isnt very dramatic in comparison to Katy Perry’s dress sense, we wanted to show how a norm can be so easily broken, and therefore become iconic.

Madonna - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuJQSAiODqI&feature=channel

This level of irony fits in to the whole camp feel we wanted for our video. As camp video generally are noted for their sense of humour.

TO CONCLUDE

The high energy sound which is the genre of music we are selling, our video and my ancillary task all support one another though the brand of identity. The images of myself and the iconic video all promote the song through the construction of our product as a whole.

We have found that advertising our product through the CD cover and poster as well as promoting our video, the ancillary plays an important role within the distribution of our product. With this thought in mind, we want members of our audience to go out or online with our band at the top of their list. I feel we have accomplished this with the relationship between our main task and ancillary tasks.
