SEN IDEAS AND RESOURCES
Summer 1 Week 2
Following instructions and sequencing are areas that many children find difficult. Below and attached to the Speech and Language are
simple two or three step sequencing activities you may like to try. I have selected activities that are simple and that require limited
steps and which are hands on and visual. If you are unable to print the picture you can still carry out the activities and/or relate to
their daily chores ie. getting dressed what goes on first, then, next, after that or having breakfast do you pour the milk first then the
cereal? If three steps is too difficult try two.
Baking (see recipe below) also helps with sequencing and building up muscles ie. mixing and it is visual.
SPEECH AND LANGUAGE IDEAS AND RESOURCES
SUMMER 1, WEEK 2
Using and developing language can be done in a variety of ways and at different levels of complexity including cooking and baking
activities which not only allow children to learn spoken language and words but visually see what those words mean ie. butter -yellow,
creamy, hard but becomes softer, tastes like … Baking also allows lots of talk, turn taking, face to face sharing an experience with
guidance and breaking the instructions into accessible and achievable steps. Below is a simple biscuit recipe which includes honey. Along
with talking through the recipe method and instructions, you could also talk about the current season, weather, where honey comes from
and how it is made.
Honey Biscuits Recipe Notes:- This simple Honey Biscuits recipe contains just five ingredients and are perfect for filling up your biscuit tin and can be
frozen! You can make this dough in advance and store covered in your fridge and freezer, bring it back to room temperature before
attempting to make into balls.
The time it takes to cream your butter and sugar will be impacted by the temperature of your butter. These biscuits are best stored in
an airtight container in a cool and dark spot for up to one week.
