Many say they are saved because they feel saved. Acts 26:9 The way that seems right is often wrong,

Proverbs 16:25 Foolish to trust your heart,

Saul of Tarsus (1 Timothy 1:15-16)

Some say they are saved because they have a good conscience. Acts 23:1; 26:9-10 Saul was zealous and religiously active, Acts 22:3 Saul was true to his convictions, Acts 22:4-5;

26:9-11 Saul felt good in his sin, Acts 26:9 (Jno. 16:2) Saul was in sin with a good conscience,

Some say they are saved because they are religiously active. Acts 22:3; Phil. 3:4-7 Saul was zealous toward God Saul was lost, although he had an

active faith – it was the wrong faith!

Some say they are saved because they pray. Acts 9:9-11 Saul prayed for three days and nights This prayerful, fasting man still had unforgiven

When did Saul know he was saved? He did not know it when he was led blind to

Damascus (although he had seen Jesus) He did not know it when he was praying

and fasting for three days He knew he was saved after he was baptized

and his sins were washed away, Acts 22:16; 9:20

Murderers of Jesus (Acts 2:37-41)

Some say they are saved because they are sorry for their sins. These were not saved when convinced of

their crime – they still had sin, Acts 2:37-38When did they know they were saved? Acts

Cornelius (Acts 10:1-6)

Many say they are saved because they are good, moral people. Good neighbor, kind, generous, respectful Good people lost in sin, Acts 10:6, 22; 11:14

When was Cornelius saved? Acts 10:47-48 When he believed and obeyed what he

was told he must do (Acts 10:43, 48)

Apollos (Acts 18:24-28)

Some say they are saved because they know the Bible. Fervent, active, but lacked accuracy, Acts 18:25 Sum of God’s word, Psa. 119:160; Acts 20:27

When did Apollos know he was saved? After he learned the way of God accurately, 18:26 Cannot be ignorant of Jesus and be saved, John 8:24 Cannot be ignorant of His word and receive Him,

Disciples of John (Acts 19:1-7)

Many say they are saved because they were already baptized. Whose baptism was it? Matthew 28:19

When did these disciples of John become disciples of Jesus? When they obeyed Jesus and were baptized

by His authority and for His purpose (for salvation), Acts 19:5

The Jailer (Acts 16:30-34)

Many say they are saved because they believe (faith only). Faith is necessary to be saved; but not

just faith, James 2:24 Confess faith, repent and be baptized,

Romans 10:9; Acts 2:38

The Jailer (Acts 16:30-34)

Many say they are saved before and without being baptized (faith only). They put off being baptized, thinking they

were saved when they believed, John 12:42-43; James 2:19 Why are you waiting? Acts 22:16

When was the jailer saved? When he fully believed (obeyed), Acts 16:34

How do you know you are saved?

When you do what God says you must do in order to be saved, 1 John 2:3-5 When you receive His word, repent and are

baptized, Acts 2:40-41 You are purified when you obey the truth, 1

Peter 1:22-23 You know you are saved when God says you

are, Hebrews 5:8-9; Galatians 3:26-27
