beginning to protest and yearned for change. Even members of the Catholic church desired change and these were silenced through threats, torture, and death.

Franco hated the questioning and disobedience of his orders and therefore resulted to strict and harsh punishment to those that would not follow his every word.

Franco did not have a set ideology like many of the dictators of that time. He believed in the power of the Catholic church, nationalism, the state, and an authoritative government.

Many people suggest that while Franco was in power he did not make a single executive decision. He believed that many problems could be resolved with time.

The result of his 35-year regime was a country that yearned for change and progress. They wanted a democratic government that would take the needs of the people into account and would make their voices heard.

Spain after Franco Cont.Spain after Franco Cont. The many years of silence left a generation of

students crying for freedom. The day Francisco Franco died, November 20,1975, students danced around a water fountain naked at a Spain University celebrating the end of the dictatorship.

This generation would create a cultural movement known as “La Movida” in which they celebrated life to the fullest extent. They started using any and all drugs that would enhance their current state. Adolescents and young adults would stay out on the streets of Madrid until nine in the morning, going from bar to bar enjoying the freedom they were just grated after being controlled and censored their whole lives.

How Has Franco Impacted the World?

How Has Franco Impacted the World?

Francisco Franco impacted the world by changing the view other countries had about Spain. In the 15th century, Spain was expanding its territory and was considered one of the strongest countries of the world. By the time Franco came into power the relationship with the world had changed completely. Franco tried fixing this image by remaining neutral during WWII and then later becoming an ally with the United States during the Cold War. After Franco, Spain became known for its night scene and this has attracted many tourists. The many monuments Franco had created during his regime are also a tourist attraction.

How Can One Person Have Such a Powerful Impact? Conclusion:

How Can One Person Have Such a Powerful Impact? Conclusion:

Franco, although a hard and dedicated military leader, was no more than mediocre. According to Operé and Douglass in España y los españoles de hoy, he did not reach extraordinary levels which is puzzling when you consider the fact that he was in power for 36 years (67).

After doing research on Franco and his regime, I realized that anyone can impact an entire country either negatively or positively. Franco was an introvert and was not considered charismatic and yet he was able to run a country for 36 years. This demonstrates that if a person is determined to do something, they can do it as long as they commit to it. Although Franco harmed a lot of innocent people, I think we can learn from his commitment and discipline to make a positive change in the world even if it’s just a single person.
