additional card access spots to the residential floors
Security Cameras
• All halls have video surveillance on all main entrance and

Mattielou and Olive have additional security cameras located in
the laundry rooms, elevators, study lounges, and hallways
University Police
• UNA has it’s own police officer force that patrols the campus
24/7 to protect and serve the community. Residence Life and
UNA Police work together to ensure the safety of the
residence halls
Community Standards
• Residence Life staff members are responsible for enforcing
UNA’s Code of Conduct in the halls, as well as specific
Residence Life policies
RESIDENCE HALL
FACILITIES
Fire Safety
• All of our residence halls have fire drills at the beginning of each
semester
• Each hall also has a designated meeting place, which is provided
during the first floor meeting
Maintenance
• All maintenance requests are submitted online; your student’s RA
can assist them with filling out the request
• After-hours maintenance is available for emergencies only
Key Security
• All residence hall rooms are locked with a standard key. If a
student loses their key, they will be required to show
identification in order to receive a spare key or to have their
door unlocked for them

• Rooms are furnished with two twin XL beds, two desks and
chairs, and two dressers. Mattielou and Olive also have closet
storage, while Rivers and Lafayette have two wardrobes. Rooms
designated as singles only have one piece of each furniture.
HOW YOU CAN
HELP YOUR
STUDENT BE
SUCCESSFUL
Mane Month Events
• Educational, social, cultural, and developmental events that allow your student to meet
their peers, have fun, learn about college, and become a true member of the UNA
community
• Housing & Residence Life RA’s are always happy to attend these events with residents
if they feel more comfortable going with someone
Registered Student Organizations
• UNA has over 100 registered student organizations…there is something for everyone!
• Greek Life
• Other student leadership opportunities
• SOAR, LaGrange Society, RHC
The First Six Weeks
• Encourage your student to stay every weekend for the first six weeks to help them
acclimate to the university
ENCOURAGE INVOLVEMENT
Check Out the Location of Classes
• Before classes start, have your student walk around to the different academic
buildings to locate where their classes are
• If your student needs assistance, they can ask their RA
Encourage Study Groups
• Since first-year students typically take most of their gen-eds their first year, there is a
good chance that many of their classmates live in their hall
• We have many study lounges throughout the buildings that are perfect for getting
together with a group and studying
ENCOURAGE ACADEMIC
SUCCESS
Stay in Contact….But Not Too Much!
• You can order care packages through the UNA Bookstore, send old-fashioned snail
mail to their campus mailbox and call on occasion
• You’ll probably want to touch base regularly, but don’t be concerned if your student
seems to need a little space while they learn what it means to be a UNA student
Let Your Student Handle Their Business
• It’s important for your student to learn independence as they are acclimating to
their new collegiate lifestyle
• If they have a question or concern, encourage your student to speak up instead of
calling for them
Familiarize Yourself and Your Student With The
Code of Conduct
• Many students do not read the code of conduct until they are being called in for a
possible violation
• It can be found within the student handbook as well as on UNA’s website
