Stephen LaVerne Hawes, also known as Steve, is the eldest son of Stephen Wayne and Charlotte Irene Hawes. He was born in Evansville, Indiana on March 24, 1965. Steve and his three brothers, Dax, Matthew, and Brad, were raised on Evansville’s North Side. Steve attended Central High School, graduating in 1983. After graduation, he began working for Kenny Kent, where he was trained and earned his Master of Automotive Technology through General Motors. In July of 1997, Steve began to work for the Unit-ed States Postal Service. He served 25 years working at the U.S. Postal Service Vehicle Maintenance Facility in Evansville, working his way from mechanic, earning specializations in all aspects of vehicle maintenance and repair, to ending his career as the Lead Automotive Technician for the Maintenance Facility. He is now happily retired. Steve and his Lady Cheryl reside in Evansville and enjoy spending time with their large extended family. Steve’s son, Brett Hawes, and daughter, Lindsay Hawes Grisham, also live in Evansville with their families. Lindsay and husband Matt are the proud parents of Jensen, the newest addition to the Hawes family. His son, Brett Hawes and wife Lori are the proud parents of Bailey, Berkeley, and Beckham. After a long successful career in National and International martial arts, Steve was honored in 1996 to become a referee for the US National Karate Team. In 1998, Steve became the Chief Referee for the U.S Team, and in 2002, he was Awarded the title of Chief Referee for the International Martial Arts WKA/WKU organizations world championships. Steve was raised to the degree of Master Mason in early 2004. In the spring of that year, he became a member of Hadi Shrine. He is a member of Reed Lodge 316, the Scottish Rite, and the No Ruz Grotto. He has served as President of Motor Corps, and is a three time Member of the Year. Steve also holds membership in Swords of Bunker Hill, Mariners, Turtles, International Yacht Club, and Royal Order of Jesters Court #102. In addition, he belongs to the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 73, and the American Legion Kapperman Post 44 in Newburgh, Indiana. Steve is also a member of the Westside Sportsman’s Club. Steve began his path in 2011 on the Hadi Shrine Divan as a Divan assistant. In 2012, Steve had the honor of being appointed Chief Aide by Illustrious Sir, Phil Smith. Later that year he was appointed Outer Guard on the Hadi Shrine Divan. As per his duties on the Divan, he has enjoyed every oppor-tunity to chair or co-chair all committees and events for our Shrine Temple. Along with Ill. Sir Phil Smith, Steve co-created the Hadi Sportsman’s Raffle and chaired the event from its inception in 2012 through 2016. Steve is very proud to serve his community through Hadi Shrine and is dedicated to ensuring the continuation of the mission of our Shrine community, to help children in need.

The Drum and Bugle Corps is now well into the New Year. President John Bogan and his officers look forward to your continued support through out the new year Please make every effort to get your 2020 dues paid as soon as possible. The treasurer, Jeremy Am-brose, will be glad to give you a new dues card for the paltry sum of $20.00. Your prompt attention to this matter will be greatly appreciated. The D&B were great hosts for the annual East West Shrine Game as well as theSuper Bowl party held on the second floor of the temple. Great food, fellowship, and games were enjoyed by a large crowd of nobles and guests. Thanks to everyone who helped. March 7th will be the annual Potentate’s Ball held

at the Holiday Inn Airport Royale Ballroom. A large number of D&B members and their ladies will be attending in honor of Potentate Steve Hawes and Lady Cheryl. On the Friday evening preceding the ball, the UCO’s will host an evening of fun and fel-lowship in the Atrium at the Holiday Inn. It is that time of year to start lining up your onion customers. Let us know how many bags you will need and I am sure you will be taken care of.The next meeting of the D&B will be March 13th. As a reminder, practice will start at 7:30 and the meet-ing will begin at 8:00pm sharp. Hope to do this again in the up and coming months and bring you the best past and future hap-penings of your Hadi Drum and Bugle Corps.

As if that fruitcake brick the neighbors three doors down gave you will ever be consumed in a timely manner! As we focus on the year ahead, we can’t help but feel the energy as we set out to host the GLSA con-vention in September right here in Evansville. Let’s take advantage of the months ahead to plan the best event that Hadi can offer to our brethren across the nation. The Funsters welcome any newly obligated nobles who have not decided on a unit (and those who are looking for a change in units) to come check us out at one of our meetings. The Funsters meet the first Monday of the month at 6:30pm in our third

Greetings all ye worthy Tribesmen of Hadi Oriental Band and to all the Nobility of Hadi Shrine. Wow!!! February is here already and now we wait to see what the ground hog has to say about the rest of our winter, hopefully it’ll be good. The New Years Eve Party was a blast! For those of you that missed it, we had a great time. Food was plentiful. We enjoyed a fantastic breakfast buffet, party favors, fireworks, and dancing with the Duke Boys. What an great evening to bring in the new year! I hope we can do this again. Nobles, as the new year begins, it’s that time of year again to pay your annual dues for the year 2020. Dues notices have been sent out and I’d appreciate it if you’d take the time to pay them in a timely fashion. Remember guys, this year we host the Jamboree and I’d like to have you join us if possible. It’ll be a great time as always. President Logan Turpin and V.P. Jacob Gentry along with our elected officers are in the process of putting together this year’s events for everyone’s enjoyment, so come join in the fun, remember this is your unit. Hadi OB wishes Ill Sir Steve Hawes and his Divan a successful year at Hadi Shrine. We’ll do our best and give him our full support to see that all goes well.The OB’s first business meeting of the year was rath-

er sparse of members, but we did get some business taken care of, such as committees, appointments and set up of this year’s OB activities and their dates. Guys, we’ve planned some interesting events, so we hope that you as members come join in the fun this year. Nobles, be sure to watch your Hot Sands for up-coming events and their dates like the Super Bowl Party, Onion Kick-Off, Potentate’s Ball and much more. Let’s make an effort to participate and support as many of these as we can. Our prayers and thoughts to loved ones and No-bles with health issues, pray that they receive Divine blessings for a speedy recovery. Fellows, our band of wandering tribesmen keeps growing in the right direction, let’s keep it going that way. Nobles, if you are looking to join an active unit, stop by our Oasis some Tuesday evening around 7p.m. to check us out. We ride in all parades, provide instruments and uniforms to active members and you need not be musically inclined. Get active, get involved with a unit or county club and enjoy being a Shriner. On Saturday, January 11th, 25 Nobles and their la-dies were treated to an elegant party held at the City View Event Center and hosted by the Divan and Ex-ecutive Circus Committee to recognize their achieve-ments in the Circus Ads and Tickets sales programs. As part of this enjoyable evening, these VIP Nobles and ladies were feted with an exquisite dinner, along with gifts, recognition and acknowledgements of their efforts and contributions to the financial suc-cess of the 86th Hadi Shrine Circus. The Nobles listed below qualified for VIP status and an invitation to this exclusive event by selling $3,000 or greater in combined Circus Ads and Nobility Ticket sales. The top Circus Ads salesman for 2019 was Cory Hollingsworth from the Mariners; the top Circus Nobility Ticket salesman was Chris Hardin from the Funsters; and the top Overall combined Circus Ads and Nobility Ticket salesman was also Chris Hardin from the Funsters.
