Hospital WeekHospital WeekSibling Program, Week 9
ThemeThis week’s theme is all about medical play
and familiarizing children within the hospital environment.
MondayTime Activities

ActivitiesBlood Soup Activity: Children will learn about the
composition of blood by making a visual aid. One at a time help children place the following into their containers: Corn Syrup (Fill half of the container), Red Hots (A little bit less than the amount of corn syrup used), Marshmallows (3-4), Sprinkles (one or two shakes). Give children a key to know what each piece represents. Corn Syrup – Plasma; Red Hots – Red Blood Cells; Marshmallows – White Blood Cells; Sprinkles - Platelets
Medical Mask Decorating: Use markers and stickers to decorate medical masks.

ActivitiesHospital Scavenger Hunt: Children will follow
the clues to different areas of the hospital.
Surgery Prep: CCLS Joel Maier will be coming in to run the kids through the surgery process.
Wednesday - Emily G.’s DayTime Activities

ActivitiesBand-Aid Man: Have the children stick a band-
aid on a piece of construction paper. Glue a cotton ball on top of the band-aid for his head, use a marker to put eyes, nose, and mouth on cotton ball. Cut q-tips in half and have them glue them on to form the arms and legs. After children can decorate the picture.
Game Operation: Children will get to practice pretending they are surgeons by playing the game operation.

ActivitiesHospital Bingo: Medical themed game cards
are used to play the classic game of bingo.
Medical Play with Jenni: CCLS, Jenni Gretzema will be coming in to lead the kids through a session of medical play.

ActivitiesSurvival Flight Tour: Call survival flight to see if
they are available to take the kids on a tour of the helicopter.
Medical Supply Collage: Have children use common household first aid and other medical supplies to create a collage on construction paper.
SaturdayTime Activities

3:20-4:00 Dr. Dress Up Relay Race
4:00-4:15 Parents arrive to pick up children

ActivitiesPaper Plate Stethoscope: Make a cut from the outside
of the plate to the inner circle and completely cut out the inner circle. This leaves a ring with an opening. Punch a hole on the opposite side from the opening. Secure one end of a pipe cleaner through the hole. Punch a whole in the bottom of a 3oz dixie cup and secure at the other end of the pipe cleaner.
Dr. Dress Up Relay: Separate children into two teams. Place dress up supplies at one end of the room and have children stand on the opposite side of the room. One at a time, the children will run down and grab an article of clothing from the box. They continue until all of their supplies are on their side of the room. Then, one of the kids will have to dress up in the doctor clothes to win the race.

4:00-4:15 Parents arrive to pick up children

ActivitiesTeddy Bear Clinic: Pass the teddy bears out so
that each child gets one. Start by putting hospital bracelets on the bears upon “admission” to the clinic. Then children will place IV’s on their bears. Next they can wrap gauze around an arm or leg to signify a burn. Children can share the medical play kits to do “surgery” on their bears. Last, they can place band-aides on their bears to cover any booboos.
