2013 Friday 25TH January HR Meal and Quiz Night SixBells Newdigate - Following the successful evening in May thisis a post Xmas get together keep the date free!
NEWS AND COMMENT
News and Comment this month is all contained in the notesfrom the Committee Meeting which are as below :
Firstly thanks to all those who attended, Dick, Mike, Tim, Fiona, Ian,Eric Scutt, Tony Flegg and Adrian
Social Event We all thought that the Quiz night held in May was agood evening out, so we will be having another one in January Friday
25th at the Six Bells again, menus etc will follow but hope to get a fewthere and a bit of competition for the quiz.
Club Website lots of comments at the October trial that the websiteis not working, Mike’s on to this and hope to have this up and runningagain the next couple of weeks it was all to do with the domain name(as you will here in the report of the club trial!)
Newsletter - after yet more discussion, this will continue on amonthly basis by post lots of opinions on this have been given bymembers some would be happy to have by email however quite afew seem to like the paper copy so for now this will continue.
Club Fees after much discussion it was agreed that club fees will beincreased by £3.00 to £15 for individual membership and £18 forfamily remember that this includes your newsletter each month, postage etc and website so we think it’s still very good value. Wewant to keep the club vibrant and members well informed. Trialsentries for 2013 will increase by £1 for all classes this should coverany costs we incur - however we have no information yet on anyinsurance increase for AMCA which is quite a large part of your entryfee.
Teams Adrian will review for 2013 remember if you e not on ateam, give Adrian a call it’s quite a task organizing this and any helpand offers without him having to chase you up will be very welcome.
Kit we’lll be ordering some more flags and also looking at somemore punches
Route we have now reverted to the white route just following thewhite flags not the deviation from the blue route that we used for awhile should be simpler.
Working Parties 17th November at Mannings Heath is the next one, there’s quite a bit of clearing, tidying up to do after the forestry workearlier in the year clearing the route and sections etc all welcome so come equipped with choppers, or whatever you have. 10 am around lunchtime
Practice Trials John C has not been around recently due to badhands/shoulder so we need volunteers to run these currently wehave 2 planned in April and June and if successful we may add anotherone in September. We’re already had volunteers from the CommitteeMeeting Adrian, Tony, Eric (and Phil W but he doesn’t know yet Tony volunteered him!) Any others are welcome these are onSaturdays and a good opportunity to learn and practice.
AOB we discussed the Walliswood trial which suffered badly this yeardue to so many events on the same day for now we will leave as is
but may change to the week before Bank Holiday Monday 27th May Mike is going to check what else is on any comments as to if youthink this would be better or not would be welcome.Horsham Club suggested that we run a trial where we invite theirmembers – it was stressed that they are welcome at any trial, but Ianwill liaise and suggest the February trial as an ‘official’ invitation.

OCTOBER CLUB TRIAL NorthlandsWeather Worries – Friday night had continuous rain locally, Mike puta short flat route in to ensure riders got round. But on Saturdaymorning Bob C found the car park area very wet and John Ythought he wouldn’t use the bottom turn. Team Laverdos includedNigel and Tom B, off the parking area the course was better thanexpected but cautiously section routes were marked on the easyside resulting in nice low scores.
6 of 1 – ½ Dozen of the Other
That’s the problem of asking for feedback! While Steve P is in theclubhouse telling Fiona email Newsletters are OK, Stuart E is out-side asking if there will be a printed one this month. “I use the in-ternet for work but rely on print to remind me of club things, Imissed the HR ride due to is not being pushed in print”. Next sub-ject - varying from the standard trials format eg Yankees and oneroute trial- eagerly supported by many but Ian J tells me he wasspeaking to a well known Bognor rider who doesn’t come to HRevents as he only wants a trial and doesn’t know when theychange! However we please some, some of the time.
Serious Gossip
From Several – HR Website is not there – what’s happened? Askingthe ancient quill pen holder a question like that is futile. Standingby, Adrian H says “Mike’s lost his domain and they want £60 togive it back”. Enquiring what a domain was quill pen was told bythe Chairman that he’d lost his years ago. Sam D tells me poor oldJohn C is a bit seized up, hands and shoulders, possibly due to dig-ger vibration – hope all goes well for him. Ian J with 2 old Ariels.Nigel and Tom were out putting punches up but Elaine was freezing, she says – is there heating in the clubhouse? After restructuring hisresidence Dan B reappears in time to mark next trial. Gary S signson for his 5 year old son riding a battery powered bike – he eventried a section. Rob H was returning from boating in Norfolk where,he said, the water was overflowing the top of the lock gates (bitlike Northlands then!). Tony and Phil last in have a parking problemand worry about exit, with 5 bikes on one trailer, it’s not surprising.Entries are up to 42 – best this year!
Course Notes
Astounded while watching Section 8, Mick D cleaned it and shoutedthat I was losing my rider-upsetting powers, some came backwhen Tom H dabbed on the log! Sect 7 was the one with the an-
gled slippery log which seemed to be worse for Blues than Whites.Yellows avoided it and most were clean including Elaine on Reds butTom B, riding White, needed a dab on the top of the log. Section 6seemed to cause most of the problems after the slow, tight bottomturn, the
greasy climb needed more welly. Tom H spun for a 3 and went backto reverse his route for next time. Fives all round for Rob H, AdrianH and Rob E – he was having to run on full choke! Two cleans onYellows by Ray M and Nick G, time for lunch.
The Consequences
With a 37 half way score, blues were spot on. Rob M from RRND ledthe pack on 28 with Tom H just 3 marks behind and Steve P 2 marksmore – he’s been battling with Tim H all round but Stuart E intervenedand put Tim back to 5th. Whites, headed by Tony F 2 marks ahead of2 Bognor riders, leaving Tom Bray as 2nd HR with Sam D and Phil wellback.
Yellow riders were the largest class, scores were low but most wereon or below ½ way marks of 18. John Y led on 2 and Kev T on 3, withMick D levelling Emma T on 7. Jamie Flegg gets ever better – he’ll beon Blues soon. Elaine – star on reds – but promised to do yellow nexttime.
Exit Slip Up
Memories of Tea Bag became evident when the guy in the swimmingpool van went down the track of peril and got stuck trying to turn,Gary S just managed to tow him out with his 4WD spinning like mad, luckily the van went home after 6 blokes pushed it up past thecaravan – lesson learnt? Thanks to the Laverdos for a trial that hadno moans and few dnfs – the weather too came up trumps.
Boating News
Elaine tells me that Nigel has bought a sailing craft which I thoughwas a racing craft till she says it’s got a loo and a kettle – a rig for theelderly but it’s 18 ft long – last month I reported on the Benge Yacht
– which was 42 ft long – mines bigger that yours!

PRACTICE/TRAINING EVENTS 2013
For the last couple of years John C has run these for the club and itseems unlikely that he’ll be able to do this for a while. It would bequite good if we could get a practice team organised ideally with Dad’swho have young son’s riding. If you think you would like to be involvedlet us or Adrian know. The matter will be raised at Committee – reportelsewhere.
