Now you can add another element to that reputation - best-in-class fuel economy. One year after the Ford Fusion Hybrid, America's most fuel-efficient mid-sized sedan, success- fully eclipsed 1,000 miles on a single tank of gas, Ford will put its new 2011 Mustang V-6 on a similar quest as it attempts to run 1,000 laps on a single tank of gas at Bristol Motor Speedway on June 23, and they're inviting consumers to be involved. A team of Ford engineers and celebrities will attempt to prove Mustang's ranking as the most fuel-efficient pony car to date by circling the half-mile NASCAR bullring at least 1,000 times - more than 500 miles - and highlight the 3.7L V-6 model's best-in-class 31 mpg. Fans can be involved in the Mustang 1,000-Lap Challenge by entering a national sweepstakes in which they will guess the total number of complete laps that Mustang will complete during the Challenge. Ford has designed a specific website for fans, who can register their guess at www.Mustang1000LapChallenge.com between March 21 and June 23, 2010. The grand prize winner will be randomly selected from all those who correctly guess the num- ber of laps completed during the Challenge and will take home a 2011 Mustang V-6 coupe. "We all know how much fun it is to drive Mustang, but in today's market it's also about fuel economy," said Jamie Allison, director, Ford North America Motorsports. "By going 1,000 laps or more on one of NASCAR's most popular tracks, we expect to show that when it comes to Mustang, you can be mean and green." The Mustang 1,000-Lap Challenge will begin the morning of Wednesday, June 23 with a team of Ford test drivers continuously circling the track billed as "the world's fastest half-mile" until the vehicle runs out of fuel with a goal of surpassing 1,000-lap mark. "To go at least 1,000 laps at Bristol means we'll be going twice as far as the NASCAR drivers do during their races, and we'll be doing it without a pit stop," said Fritz Wilke, Mustang Brand Manager. The V-6 Mustang will be no stranger to Bristol by then, having been selected to serve as pace car for March's Food City 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event. This event is a follow-up to last year's challenge in which Ford NASCAR driver Carl Edwards participated in driving the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid a total of 1,445 miles (an average of 81.5 mpg) on a single tank of gas around Washington, D.C. The V-6 Mustang was pace car for the Bristol 500 on March 21.

BRISTOL Tenn., March 21 2010 – Since first coming off the assembly line 45 years ago, Mus-tang has always been known for its sheer power and speed. Now you can add another element

to that reputation - best-in-class fuel economy.

One year after the Ford Fusion Hybrid, America's most fuel-efficient mid-sized sedan, success-fully eclipsed 1,000 miles on a single tank of gas, Ford will put its new 2011 Mustang V-6 on a similar quest as it attempts to run 1,000 laps on a single tank of gas at Bristol Motor Speedway

on June 23, and they're inviting consumers to be involved.

A team of Ford engineers and celebrities will attempt to prove Mustang's ranking as the most fuel-efficient pony car to date by circling the half-mile NASCAR bullring at least 1,000 times -

more than 500 miles - and highlight the 3.7L V-6 model's best-in-class 31 mpg.

Fans can be involved in the Mustang 1,000-Lap Challenge by entering a national sweepstakes in which they will guess the total number of complete laps that Mustang will complete during the Challenge. Ford has designed a specific website for fans, who can register their guess at

www.Mustang1000LapChallenge.com between March 21 and June 23, 2010.

The grand prize winner will be randomly selected from all those who correctly guess the num-

ber of laps completed during the Challenge and will take home a 2011 Mustang V-6 coupe.

"We all know how much fun it is to drive Mustang, but in today's market it's also about fuel economy," said Jamie Allison, director, Ford North America Motorsports. "By going 1,000 laps or more on one of NASCAR's most popular tracks, we expect to show that when it comes to

Mustang, you can be mean and green."

The Mustang 1,000-Lap Challenge will begin the morning of Wednesday, June 23 with a team of Ford test drivers continuously circling the track billed as "the world's fastest half-mile" until the

vehicle runs out of fuel with a goal of surpassing 1,000-lap mark.

"To go at least 1,000 laps at Bristol means we'll be going twice as far as the NASCAR drivers do during their races, and we'll be doing it without a pit stop," said Fritz Wilke, Mustang Brand

Manager.

car for March's Food City 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event.

“See you on Friday!”

Sunday, May 23rd, the Pikes Peak Sports Car Club staged an autocross event at Castle View High School in Castle Rock. This is always a fun event, and many Mustang owners use this as a chance to brush up on their skills before the Rocky Mountain Mustang Roundup. This was obvious, since about 40 of the 45 or

so cars present were Mustangs!

There were about 10 DMC members racing and at least that many more watching. DMC Member Joe Dietz came down and served as grill-master, cooking up some great hot dogs, burgers and brats for all of

us to enjoy between the morning and afternoon sessions. Thanks, Joe!

The weather was fairly cooperative, warm and sunny, and not too windy until the afternoon session was

nearly over...much less windy than the previous day!

Turning in the fastest DMC lap time was Joe Lewand in his Subaru WRX. Joe can really toss that little car around the corners. The fastest DMC lap time in a Mustang was recorded by Jeff Jacobucci, in his Shelby GT-H. Jeff got his hands on some tires from a Mustang Challenge race car, and it looks like they work

really well! Congrats Joe and Jeff!

We’ve got two more sessions of Club Clash completed, and Denver Mustang is doing very well!

At the May 21st session, Steve Katz, Wes Thornton and Steven Richardson all went out in the first round, Jeff Jacobucci made it to the 2nd round, your editor made it to the 3rd round, and Mike Rhynard,

Jr. made it to the 5th round. Jim Cosper’s clutch decided that it was done, during the first round.

At the June 4th session, Steve Katz and Jack Hawkins went out in the first round, Jim Cosper made it to

the 2nd round, Mike Rhynard, Jr., Wes Thornton and your editor all made it to the 3rd round.

Denver Mustang is in 8th place in the 5 man points standings, and Mike Rynard, Jr. is in 8th place in the

individual standings! Way to go, DMC racers, and way to go, Mike!

Our next race is July 30. Come out and race with us, or just come out to watch!

Show Ponies By Tim Steenson, DMC Newsletter Editor

On Saturday, May 22, we had about 50 cars come out for our 45th Anniversary Celebration and car show at Phil Long Ford, including Jim and Tammy Cosper’s GT, wounded the night before at Club Clash. They weren’t about to let a little clutch explosion keep them from honoring DMC, so they brought their

pony, still on the trailer.

The wind was unbelievable, all day long. But we soldiered on, determined to have a good time. Wes Thornton put our sound system to use with some music, thanks Wes! We took turns watching each other’s chairs so they wouldn’t get blown away, and enjoyed a nice BBQ lunch, provided by the dealer-

ship. Phil Long also provided some nice door prizes! We had some delicious anniversary cake too!

Thanks to everyone that came out to say thanks to Phil Long for all of the support that they have given

the club over the years.

Despite the wind, great times were had by all at the DMC 45th Anniversary Car Show on May 22nd @ Phil Long Ford. All participants received the special DMC 45th Anniversary car/window cling on, depicting several of the logos the club has used since inception (Triangle, Fred, Mirror Image), along with other Mus-tang related logos. We have some left over. If you were unable to be at the celebration and would like one, they will be available at membership meetings

until we run out.
