DESCRIPTION

• The horse is a four legged animal that has been domesticated over the years (callabus). They are herbivores.

ROLES IN THE COMMUNITY • Horses are used for showing, racing,

chariot pulling, and farming.

• They can show western or English.

• They can plow crops for farming.

DESCRIPTION OF HABITAT• They prefer to live in wide green areas where

they can easily access the herbs and plants to eat. Domesticated horses sometimes have stables/stalls to live in and have a fenced in pastured, they eventually get used to it. They like to be placed near watering holes such as rivers or pounds

WHAT ORGANISMS HORSES HAVE TO COMPETE WITH FOR RESOURCES.• Horses have to compete with most land

animals for water resources.

• Horses have to compete with herbivores such as buffalo’s, yak’s, giraffe’s, lama’s and others for resources of food.

WHAT DO HORSES CONSUME FOR ENERGY?• Horses consumer grass from grazing in

pastures.

• Domesticated horses can get feed certain kind of grain and certain kind of hay.

• There are different kinds of grains for different reasons. Example Cool Calories is for gaining weight

HORSES REPRODUCTION • When the mare is on her period, she will let the

male horse know by urinating near him. He will smell it and be able to detect the presence of needed hormones. Then he will nudge the mare, approaching her from behind. She will lift her tail and reveal the vaginal opening and he will then mount her.

HOW MANY OFFSPRING CAN THE HORSE PRODUCE? • Horses can produce about once a year but its

not recommended because of health issues.

• It takes 11 months for the foal to be born.

• Is a very rare occasion of twins.

WHY ITS BENEFICIAL FOR HORSES TO REPRODUCE?

• It beneficial because…

• It doesn’t let the horses go extinct.

• It keeps a royal blood line going. Which with a foal you can sell for a lot of money if he has a royal ancestor.

THREATS AND ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS FOR HORSES. • Threats of lack of adequate grazing land and

water they face have the potential to wipe them out.

• Wild horses have very little animal predators.

THREATS THAT HORSES MAY POSE TO OTHER ORGANISMS.• There are really no threats that horses pose to

other organisms, except maybe destroying a small animals habitat/housing.

IMPORTANCE OF HORSES.• Horses are important to the community

because..

• They give something for kids to do and learn like responsibility.

• They also produce jobs such as ranchers.
