Horror/Thriller ConventionsHorror and thriller movies overlapHorror and thriller movies can be categorized into one sub genre, this involves films such as Saw, Halloween, Paranormal Activity, Psyco etc..Yet as individual genres they can be categorized into different genres despite their multiple similarities..

Differences .. A thriller movie consists of much more psychological horror; such as The Sixth Sense. There is reasoning behind why the killer has become this way and why he desires to kill.In comparison to a horror, a lot of killings are usually careless actions or impossible scenarios much like in The Wrong Turn. Both films have the intentions to scare you, which is why the easily interweave. Yet, a thriller is seen to scare you in a way which makes you question things, but horror films usually use blood and gore. These differences easily interweave to form a Horror/Thriller; as many horror do consist of psychological reasoning. Conventions of a horror/thrillerCanted angles to create disorientation Long tracking shots to build tensions and to give the sense that they are being followed/watchedPoint of view shots to show what the protagonist or the antagonist can seeDepth of field shot, which blurs the background yet keeps the subject in focus; this although makes the audience focus on the background rather than the foreground as we are led to believe that something will happen in the background shot.Extreme close ups to capture fear
