Charitable Works Fund Appeal 1213 August What is a catechist A catechist teaches the Catholic faith to Catholic students in public schools in the Diocese ldquoAnd this is the job of the catechist constantly to go forth to others out of love to bear witness and to talk about Jesus to proclaim Jesus This is important because the Lord does it it is the Lord who impels us to go forthrdquo (Pope Francis) Did you know The name Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) was created by the Catholic Church at the time of the reformation 500 years ago This was an association of lay Catholics devoted to the work of Catholic religious education Their focus was children not attending Catholic schools so that those baptised Catholic children should be educated in their faith In 1905 Pope Pius X decreed that the CCD should be undertaken in every Parish across the world
[1]
Your donations to the CWF extend beyond the Parish to support Catholic public school students in our Diocese including funding for the training of catechists and the production and printing of quality curriculum resources including a student workbook for every child and catechist materials which include a teacherrsquos manual a music CD and a multi-media digital resource This week we acknowledge the work of the catechists in our Parish and support them to share our faith with Catholic children with our donations to the Charitable Works Fund Please give generously and support these incredible people who minister to 21000 Catholic students in public schools in our Diocese [1] The CCD Movement in Public Schools A New Light In The East A history of the Diocese of Broken Bay 1986 ndash
