HORNBY ONE YEAR SCHOLARSHIP

A S HORNBY EDUCATIONAL TRUST
The Hornby Schools have been established by the British Council whouse joint funding to support the objectives of the A S HornbyEducational Trust. The Trust was established in 1961 by A.S.Hornby,an English language teacher in Japan, who authored the first OxfordAdvanced Learner's Dictionary (OALD)
The Hornby Trust also provides two scholarship places on a year'scourse in ELT in the UK and applications have been invited for
submission by 20th March 2012. The selection panel will considercandidates across Asia to short list candidates to be interviewed beforethe final selection is made.
Interviews will take place March 23rd 2012
Candidates should:
have successfully completed an undergraduate degree courseequivalent to a Bachelors Degree in the UK (certification mustbe provided as part of each candidates application)
have at least 5 years hands-on and direct experience as anEnglish language teacher/teacher trainer (as opposed to
experience only in a management role, such as co-ordinatingpolicy or running a school)
have been involved in some sort of developmental work astrainers or managers
have attained an overall minimum Band score 6.5 on theInternational English Language Testing Service (IELTS), withno less than 6 in any of the categories.Intend to study for a full time UK based ELT Diploma orMasters degree.
Hornby Trust funding is only available for full time UK based ELT

Requests for Application forms and Declaration of Health should bemade to the British Council office closest to you or downloaded athttp://www.britishcouncil.org/india-english-hornby.htm
The last date for receiving applications is 20th March 2012. Noapplications will be accepted after this date.
Each application must be accompanied by:
Two supporting references – one must be from the currentemployer
Cer tified copies of degree certificates / transcripts whererelevant
A full up-to-date Curriculum Vitae
Applications which are not supported by the required documentationwill not be considered.
Candidates will be placed in one of these colleges: University of Birmingham, Lancaster, Leeds, University College Plymouth, St Markand St John (Marjon) and University of Warwick. However, there is noguarantee that candidates will be placed at their first choice university.
It is preferred that candidates applying will have sat the ILELTS test. If the chosen candidate does not have an IELTS score already, theyshould be prepared to sit for the exam around 31 March. Failure to sitthe test and obtain the appropriate score will lead to a withdrawal of any previous offer of scholarship.
Please note that the candidate must not communicate directly with theUK institution, other than request information on that university'scourses.
